Resounding Applause and 5 tacos 🌮🌮🌮🌮🌮

Hey Resound,thank you so much!!!

I was in a jam and needed to do a recording for a book I wrote, and needed a tool the take out the uhms and ahas and dead space. Well, I purchased resound, but never used it until yesterday October 13, 2024, and it is awesome 😎 👍 I took and almost two hour recording and dwindle it down to 1 hour 24 minutes. It processed pretty fast, I am pleased. I cannot attest to the other reviews that are saying resound went downhill with that May update, and they probably do more complex editing than me, so I hope resound happily takes their feedback as a challenge to make their tool even better because I would like to purchase tier 3 if they decide to come back to AppSumo one last time 😊 hopefully they stay a little longer so everyone can catch the best deal in town. I did use this tool in conjunction with Xound first before using resound to edit, what a powerhouse combo!

They changed the fine-print.

When this deal was launched it was a pretty good way to clean audio. Not as good as Adobe Podcast (which has gotten even worse) or Auphonic (which is MILES better) but enough to hold its own. I even wrote about it on LinkedIn.

I tested its capabilities before committing to a Tier 3 purchase. Then, sometime around May 2024, they rolled out an update that has pretty much made the tool unusable. Now, you need to subscribe to some add-ons or change to subscription billing to get the same functionality that you were getting before the update.

Classic bait and switch.

Shame, because Resonate (the parent company) actually seems to be a decent production house. Not gonna trust anything from Resound or Resonate from here on...

Disappointing Results

The tool seems to lower the sound in areas where it's not necessary, creating an unbalanced audio experience. There's no way to make targeted adjustments to specific parts of the audio. End result worsen than my original recording, even after applying various filters, the results were subpar. The processed audio often sounds artificial and unnatural, which is a significant drawback.

it works

Resound does exactly what it says on the box. It eliminates 'uuummms' and long silences. It's super easy to use. And it even cleans up your audio. Happy to recommend.

Was great before May update, now awful.

What has irked me is the change to the Enhance AI part of the plan. You had one setting in the Creator Plan that produced a warm and resonant tone in the audio.

They've since "improved" the plan to have four Enhance AI settings:
High and crisp, Low and crisp (now included in the creator plan which was their AppSumo offering), and also High and Warm, and Low and Warm.

Crisp included, warm taken away. And in audio, warm is good as crisp can be tinny and tunnel like. Now you have to upgrade to use warm when it was the default.

If they wanted to limit AppSumo users to two out of the new four EnhanceAI plans, they could... I guess, but why not let the users decide which of the four options they wanted? Seems to me, they wanted to bork the quality and force an upgrade.

I contacted the CEO, but it seemed like they couldn't help much besides mentioning some slider controls that weren't very helpful. The exported audio had clipping that was not in the previous version of Resound. The pre-May version was great. The newest version is absolutely terrible, and the push to upgrade to the previously offered warmer tone seems like a blatant marketing tactic. An update to address this was promised/suggested in the first week of July. Nothing.

The editor has been improved, but there are still some strange results, so you have to check the audio results manually. I've just started using Auphonic and Audacity again. Disappointing.

If Resound allows users on the creator plan to choose warm tones or confirm their preferred tones, there could be a chance for improvement.
