Q: Hi Dhananjoy The fully stacked re:tune is priced at $399 but it comes with a significant risk factor ...

despite its positive rating and active Q&A.

I’m still undecided about the full stack deal and have a few very pointed questions for you.

In the past year, I’ve purchased deals like Vicodo for over $799, which ended up closing down. Appsumo’s response was unsatisfactory, offering no recourse other that a 10% discount on future purchase.

This wasn't an isolated incident, (Rumble Studio imploded. No response from appsumo) I have incurred losses of $1000 from two Appsumo purchases in less than 12 months.

I am starting to question Appsumo diligence in vetting startups. What are your thoughts on this and can you speak to my questions below.

- Transparency about re:tune funding situation
- Assurance of long-term sustainability for re:tune
- Commitment no to get involved in Bait and Switch of features and deal terms with Re:tune

Looking forward to your response.

A: Thank you so much for asking the hard questions that everyone should be asking!

We have been very transparent about building a sustainable business and making money as a business from day one in our campaign.

Even though every other products in this space was offering free monthly tokens and credits to lifetime customers, we were adamant in our position, despite the pushbacks, that we will not provide any tokens and you will need to bring your own key to use retune.

As mentioned in our founder's notes in the appsumo listing above, I am funding re:tune with with our another company, re:cruit (https://recruit.so). The exact details are confidential, of course, however to share numbers, re:cruit has been in business for over 3 years, and our average ticket size has been over $35,000, enough to fund retune for a long time.

That, of course, doesn't guarantee that we are not going to fail. It could happen that we fail to acquire customers with recurring revenue, either from subscriptions or add-ons or upsold services through re:cruit. My promise on that is, even if a very unlikely and unfortunate scenario like that happens, and we need to shut down, we will open source the codebase along with guide on how you can run retune on your own mostly using free-tier hosting services, which will be more than sufficient for most customers.
