I’ve released a couple of fairly large Scribeist updates over the past few days. The main focus has been making AI more efficient, improving performance and adding more tools for actually sitting down and writing.

1) Smarter AI Chat

AI Chat has received a major overhaul.

The old @ system has been replaced with a new Add menu, so you can now attach exactly what you want the AI to use:

• Documents and folders
• Research
• Mythos entities
• Manuscripts
• Entire workspaces

I’ve also added Workspace Search, which lets the AI find relevant information only when it needs it instead of constantly loading large parts of your project into context.

Some guides will be added soon to better explain when to use Add versus Search.

For now, the simple difference is: Add is for giving the AI specific information you know it needs. Search is for when the answer is somewhere in your workspace, but you may not know exactly where.

For example, if you say “Continue Chapter 4,” you would use Add to provide Chapter 4. If you ask “Where did Mara and Steve meet?”, you would use Search so the AI can find that information across your workspace.

2) AI Summaries & Mythos AI Visibility & Upgraded AI Models

Documents can now have compact AI summaries, and Mythos profiles have AI Visibility controls, giving you more control over what information the AI can access.

The available AI models have also been upgraded across OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Mistral, DeepSeek, xAI, Qwen, MiniMax, Kimi, Z.ai, and BYOK providers.

3) Modes & Sprints

• Reading Mode for viewing a novel as one continuous manuscript or paginated book preview
• Focus Mode for a more distraction-free writing experience
• Split View for opening two documents, canvases or notes side by side
• Writing Sprints for setting a timed writing goal and tracking your progress

4) New Languages & Small Additions

Language support has also expanded with Thai, Bengali, Vietnamese, and Hungarian, with Romanian and Afrikaans coming soon.

There are plenty of smaller improvements throughout the app as well, including a redesigned Version History, better Markdown pasting and workspace cover themes.

More feedback is always welcome. A lot of these changes have come directly from the suggestions and issues people have shared since the AppSumo launch.

Next update will have non-fiction workspaces, a better mobile experience and proper formatting tools.

I have just released a Scribeist update with requested improvements across different writing workflows.

1) Write in more languages

You can now choose the language Scribeist uses for AI responses, generated writing, and editing suggestions.

The language can be selected when creating a workspace or changed later in the workspace settings. Each workspace can use a different language, making it easier to manage projects written in multiple languages.

The supported languages are English (United States), English (United Kingdom), Spanish (Spain), Spanish (Latin America), French, German, Italian, Portuguese (Brazil), Portuguese (Portugal), Dutch, Polish, Danish, Finnish, Norwegian, Swedish, Czech, Turkish, Russian, Ukrainian, Arabic, Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Chinese (Simplified), and Chinese (Traditional).

Honest note: Language support is still in an experimental phase. If you notice anything that seems off, please reach out and let me know.

2) More flexible imports

You now have more control over how imported files are organized.

You can:

• Import a file as one document or split it into multiple documents
• Separate novel manuscripts into chapters or chapters and scenes
• Preview the structure and rename documents before importing
• Import multiple Notion pages at once

3) Import projects from Novelcrafter

Manuscripts can be organized into chapters and scenes, while Codex entries can be imported into Mythos to preserve your characters, locations, lore, and other project information.

4) Clearer writing counts

When you select part of a document, Scribeist now shows the word and character counts for the selected text alongside the totals for the complete document.

5) Equations and HTML exports

The editor can now render supported LaTeX and KaTeX equations.

Documents can also now be exported as HTML files for use on websites and other publishing platforms.

I'm Tanner, founder of Scribeist.

I started building Scribeist because I realized every writing tool seemed to treat writing the same way. Whether you were outlining a novel, writing a blog post, organizing research, or simply taking notes, you were usually given the same editor, and nowadays sometimes AI is just slapped on top.

Even when you found a tool that worked well, it usually came with another problem:

• You'd write in one app.
• Organize your ideas in another.
• Research somewhere else.
• Plan characters or timelines in yet another.
• Constantly switch between them just to keep your project moving.

Writing shouldn't require juggling half a dozen different apps.

That's where the idea for Scribeist began.

Rather than building another generic editor, I wanted to build dedicated workspaces around the way people actually write. Instead of trying to do everything for everyone, each workspace includes the tools that workflow actually needs, helping you spend less time switching between apps and more time writing.

That means:

• Dedicated workspaces for different types of writing.
• Specialized tools designed for each workflow.
• Less switching between multiple apps.
• AI that understands your project, helping you stay consistent and reducing repetitive work while keeping you in control of the writing.

Being a solo founder means I get to build closely with the people who use Scribeist. Many of Scribeist's best ideas have come directly from user feedback, and I'll be here throughout the campaign answering questions, listening to your ideas, and continuing to improve Scribeist alongside all of you.
