My names Phil and my wife (Suzie) and I recently acquired SheetMagic from the original founder, Curran, back in mid-September. We've been a huge fan of the work that Curran and his team did over the years.

We're excited to breathe new life into the product and take it to new heights with your help! We've processed your feedback and concerns and are actively working towards addressing a lot of your concerns. Our roadmap includes many concepts and ideas that we are excited to bring to life.

In the last month, we've been working on new features that help the product's reliability and user experience.

As a result, I'm happy to announce that version 5.0 is now GENERALLY AVAILABLE!

Here are the following changes that come along with version 5.0

• Asynchronous processing. This means your custom functions will continue to be processed in the background. No more 30 second execution time limits!
• A new custom function “AISPEECH”.
• New sidebar content that showcases all available custom functions.
• Refreshed user sidebar for better user experience.
• Support for Google Nano banana image generation and Google Gemini text generation.
• Updated OAuth (Safe Mode) workflow and diagnostics for better troubleshooting.
• Backend logs updated with user emails so better troubleshooting is made possible.

We have some fantastic news this week! SheetMagic v1.4 is now available & packed with some awesome updates!

We added a few new functions, =ailong() and =gpt4long(). The regular =ai() and =gpt4() functions still work, but if you're doing longer prompts or doing a bulk job, you'll want to use the "long" functions for a more reliable experience!

What do these new features allow you to do?

💪 Better support for bulk processing

In the last version, SheetMagic would have trouble processing bulk requests of 50+ AI responses, but that has all changed now! You can now process in bulk without having any issues using the new =ailong() function! It takes a bit longer for each response to come back, but it is much more reliable!

↪️ Ability to bypass 30 second timeout limitation

This is a HUGE update! Beforehand, you were limited to 30 seconds of processing time (meaning longer AI responses would just give you an error), but now you can get long prompts & answers back from AI without any issues. Use the new =ailong() function to get this functionality. It will take slightly longer, but it will get the job done for you.

🖥️ Background processing

Open tabs? Who needs 'em! No need to keep your sheet open if you're doing a bulk job with the =ailong() function. Exit out and come back later and the data will be there :)

✔️ Other small features

• We've added support for these two models: GPT-3.5-turbo 16k and GPT-4 32k
• Added advanced settings to let you toggle the maximum tokens and temperature!
• A backup way to add your API key if saving it is causing issues
• Bug fixes & quality of life improvements

What is coming next for SheetMagic?

Next release will be a big one: SheetMagic 2.0!

For SheetMagic 2.0, we will be releasing an official extension with Google with better user management. This will allow you to use SheetMagic on any Google Sheet without having to make a copy of the original sheet every time and will allow for proper user management.

When we do that we'll likely be increasing pricing on AppSumo. You'll be grandfathered in, so if you want unlimited users now, I'd recommend upgrading before we increase pricing.

SheetGPT is a good name…

…well, it was a good name, because it’s not going to be our name anymore.

For many of you, the reason for this is probably pretty clear. The impending trademark from OpenAI on GPT is of worry to us. Along with that, another product also named SheetGPT exists and has been causing a lot of confusion with customers.

So we set out to rename ourselves, something many other successful companies have also done for a wide variety of reasons. Our new name is SheetMagic, and we’re pretty excited about it.

There were three things we wanted from a new name. For it to:

1. Be enchanting, memorable, and stand out as being distinctly unique
2. Convey the FULL magic we bring to spreadsheets, rather than just adding AI to sheets
3. Not get us screwed legally (honestly this is the main reason 🤣)

So why SheetMagic? It’s a captivating, fun name. And it just fits.

We provide the magic touch to your data needs (and no, not the Michael Jackson type of magic touch, sicko).

Our goal is to be the single source of data enchantment for your spreadsheets. A place where everyone can use a little magic to improve their life in business.

They say there’s no magic in numbers and they were right about that… Until now.
