Smart Clerk is praised for its accurate OCR/importing of PDFs, excellent UI/UX, and user-friendly design. However, some users have reported minor glitches with real-time updates and complex reconciliations. Despite this, Smart Clerk is a solid buy for those in need of an efficient accounting/bookkeeping tool. With a 4.4 overall rating and a 60-day money-back guarantee, it's worth giving it a try.

1 Taco- Poor Bank Limits

How can any small business thrive with a limit of 15 bank accounts. The functionality is not where you can remove or delete banks, or nor does it allow for monthly refreshes. So I attempted to create another account and oh my goodness the 15 bank max is for the whole account and the limitation is not per account. This was a total rip off! I will be finding another tool for my tax office. Waste of time and mney!

Account limit policy was not disclosed

Nowhere does it say that you cannot delete bank accounts and add new ones or replace them. I closed one business, and while trying to generate reports for my current business and a second one, I am forced to buy new bank accounts yearly.

This feels like a scam. You should allow users to remove or replace bank accounts and simply limit it to 6, as my plan states. Instead, once you use a bank account, there is no going back. This was not clear at all. I basically lost my money here.

I am going back to QuickBooks!!

buy it just after you have submitted tax return as there is a fee to upload statements .

I started using this the other day and a prompt to pay $15 to upload historical statements. appeared when trying to do 2024 to 2025 I thought I could use it to create the expenses for 2024 - 2025. Buying it in 2025 doesn't mean you can upload for 2024 to 2025 at no extra cost. I cannot say anything further as I am reluctantly using another system. Uploading to it works well. it read the statements fine. Im in uk so I got tier 2 as it cannot connect yet to uk banks. I hope to see further advancement on this software soon.

With Smart Clerk, you can always upload documents from the current and previous tax years, as this feature is included in all plans. However, uploading documents older than that requires an add-on.

You can think of AI credits on many tools here on AppSumo — if you don't use them for a year, they expire. It makes sense to keep these kinds of lifetime deals valid for a longer period, as it benefits...

Amazing software, but lacking important reports

I'm running an accountancy firm and I was very excited when I came across this software. It's very simple to use and does all your bank reconciliation in minutes after uploading your bank statements (it still needs to be reviewed).

My heart breaks that I have to return this, but it's missing some important reports/features for us:
-It only generates a Profit & Loss Report, but not a Balance Sheet, so we can't use it for year end accounts.
-Additionally, you can't account for VAT (Sales tax) with it, nor generate VAT returns to submit to the tax authority.
-As it takes all the data from your bank statements (gross amounts) but you can't account for the VAT included in these amounts, all the figures on your Profit & Loss Report will be wrong including your net profit as a P&L report should show your NET figures (figures without VAT included) and the Balance Sheet should show the VAT due to the tax authority.
-It also can't do multi-currency accounting or only with a workaround. We are in the UK but pay for software subscription in USD and EUR also. The only way around this for now is setting up separate companies in Smart Clerk for the different currencies, but then you need to consolidate all these "companies" finances to end up with a P&L.
-Lastly, when I deleted our bank statements in it, it only deleted the bank statements, but not the imported transactions or vendor names. I could bulk delete the transactions, but then I had to manually overwrite every vendor's name if I didn't want them to stay in their system.
This was just a last inconvenience, but could be frustrating if you have to do some historical tidying up.

Anyway, without the above issues, I think it is a great software.
I look forward to their development, but at this time, it was just not usable for us.

Perfect for Tax Prep

Bought this on a whim, and it was perfect timing! My deadline after I extended my US tax return was fast approaching and I'm so glad I had this. I hate the complexity of quickbooks but love the simplicity of this. Interface is intuitive, I was able to dive in and it really helped me make my P&L statements. Probably saved me HOURS of work. I loved the ability to easily drill into expenses by filtering accounts, and vendor name. Would love to have more granular control to specify custom dates etc. So far so good!
