Q: I would like to clarify a use case based on: -Allowed: YouTube Monetization -Not Allowed: distribute music to ...

streaming platforms such YouTube Music

YouTube monetization is allowed, but not distribution to YouTube Music. These statements seem contradictory, as music videos on YouTube are also shown on YouTube Music.

Here's an example:
I make a song using only Soundraw, that I upload the song to YouTube, with a video I've created. The video is monetized and I earn money. YouTube also shows YT music videos on YT Music.

-Does this mean that any music I monetized on YouTube Video, would breach your terms of not being allowed on YouTube Music? Or is it simply that I can not directly upload the music video as an mp3 to YT Music?

Again, this is EXTREMELY confusing, and I hope you can elaborate on how I can achieve this within the bounds of Soundraws terms of service!

A: Hi and thank you for your question!

You can monetize with YouTube but you cannot register or copyright claim the music generated by SOUNDRAW. Essentially, your content (video, podcast, etc.) can be monetized with SOUNDRAW music but not the tracks itself. YouTube Music handles the 'music' aspect of the content, which is SOUNDRAW's intellectual property and, therefore, cannot be sold or distributed.

This may sound confusing but, to sum it up, we put barriers when the user tries to monetize only what is done with our tool. Our intended design for SOUNDRAW is to help content creators to find the best match in terms of music for their content, and not for the music itself to be the content. I hope this clarifies it a bit more.

Still, we are keeping a close eye to everyone's feedbacks and we know many users want different kinds of licensing and ways to use SOUNDRAW. We're seeing what we can do and hope to implement changes soon!

Okay, I think I understand.

So in my example above, where I make the music 100% with Soundraw but upload it with my own video, I'm permitted to monetize this music video on YouTube?

Yes, you can (and should) monetize it! :)

As long as you don't try to register it (copyright it), you're good to go. Also, if you decide to sell or distribute it separately from your video, it's also not allowed as per our policy.

Hopefully this information helps!

Hello,
You mentioned - "not for the music itself to be the content".
What if I create a video with single image and use soundraw music as a background music? Can I monetise it?

Thanks

Hi and thank you for your question.

Usually when you upload a music with only a single image, most platforms label that content as 'music distribution', which is currently not allowed per our policy. We apologize for any inconvenience.

However, be sure that we are looking into new models of licensing and will update everyone when and if changes are made!

Hi,
ok. a single image video is a little too dumb. How about 10 images with slide show?
Is it still considered "music distribution"? I mean I am not trying to register or claim the music as mine. As long as people come and play my youtube video, it is fine.
Can I monetise that too?

Thanks

Thank you for your reply!

I don't think I can answer your question with 100% certainty, as it would require specific knolwedge of what YouTube and similar platforms consider as music distribution or not. That is done mostly on their end. I believe (and, as mentioned, I'm not 100% sure of this) that you could monetize SOUNDRAW generated music with no issues if you have multiple images together with the song. As stated, the content that you have SOUNDRAW music attached to should, at least in theory, be the main focus of what you're selling/monetizing, and not the music itself.

Once again, I know this is super confusing and apologize for not being able to answer your question in a more accurate manner. :(
