I've tried Subscribr several times over the years, and each time, I find it kind of bloated, overkill, and overpriced for scriptwriting - especially scripts that need specific research knowledge base (ie medical). But the news isn't all bad (more on that later).

This time around, thanks to the AppSumo special, I bought Tier 4 and gave Subscribr a head-to-head try against Claude (custom project), and VidIQ.

First of all, the workflow with Subscribr is super bloated and not intuitive (to me, and I'm a professional writer.)

With Claude, I was able to analyze a YT channel voice I wanted, have 'him' adapt it for my niche, and lock in the voice. I was also able to lock in a knowledge base of documents that ensured my accuracy, as well as, a prompt that makes my script writing rinse and repeat. After the one-time initial set up, I'm able to generate a killer 8-min YT script with description, title, tags, etc in a matter of seconds. For a one-off, this is great, but we all know Claude can be a token-hound...

With VidIQ, I was able to have it analyze a channel voice that I wanted, adapt it to my niche, generate a 12-part YT series based on my uploaded knowledge base...it then wrote the scripts, the descriptions, the tags AND created a 'first pinned comment' with all of the citations. The 'voice' drifted a 'bit' but they were still great and I can fix the voice in claude when I convert it to 'ElevenLabs' ready. What's more those twelve, 8-minute script packages only used up 1/4 of my monthly credits (and a month costs something like $24). VidIQ also developed a 20-part series for me...needless to say? I'm impressed.

For those reasons I downgraded Subcribr to Tier 2. I'll literally NEVER use it for YT script writing. Never.

Why downgrade and not cancel? The Subscribr Hook Generator!

This is where Subscribr shines! The hooks are OUTSTANDING and more than worth the $129 for me. I'm actually using them for IG reels scripts to teases my long form videos on YT as they come in at around 25 seconds before I've added the cta.

So if you struggle with hooks? Subscribr is 5 tacos (actually 10 tacos - the hooks are THAT good)

If you struggle with scripts and script packages? 1 taco

Final verdict? 3 tacos taking everything into account - especially the price.

Using subscribr has helped me generate well-researched scripts that has sped up my workflow. I am now able to produce 2-3 videos a week easily. I have seen an noticeable increase in my warchtime and subscribers (now fully qualified to be monetised in less than 3 months). The ideation and research are the stand out features that all combine to make excellent unique video script in my niche and the engagement on my channel shows this too. The brand voice following does need some improvement, but I have spoken with the team, who are very accessible and receptive, and they have confirmed they are actively working on improving this. When I get my final script, if it needs a little tlc to follow my brand voice more precisely, I just pop it into ChatGPT or Claude and I'm ready record with just one shot within a few mins...something I can live with until this is properly improved. Everything else is seamless and Im already starting my 2nd channel in another niche I know well :)

I am very mixed about this tool; given the glowing reviews, it just never worked well for me after testing it on +/- 20 videos. The new workflow is much less practical than the old step-by-step tabs, and the AI fails to capture my style, making me lose time since I always end up rewriting everything with ChatGPT or Claude. However, I appreciate the ideation chat, it gives interesting insights. The title generation is also good, and the thumbnail ideas are generally good too.
Now, I just paste my ChatGPT-made scripts into the chat to get a few extra ideas, but Subscriber is no longer my main tool.
Quite disappointed overall.

Easily the best YT tool I have purchased in the last 5 years. Constant development and improvements. If you're taking YT seriously you don't want to miss this tool. The research and floe are the the strongest features. It needs to learn how to follow voice / writing style better, but this is easily fixable with Claude or ChatGPT once the script is complete if it hasn't followed your exact voice as instructed. Otherwise, no complaints since it's saving me heaps of time and my YT workflow is now 10x faster. Worthy of 5 tacos and good to see the team constantly updating and improving the tool.

Actually, I still don’t have a YouTube channel.
I was in a lazy state where I only had vague plans and hadn’t taken any action.
When I first saw Subscribr on Appsumo, I just had a vague feeling that it would be a good tool and was unsure whether to buy it or not.
Then, when it became available only to Plus members, I panicked.
So after much hesitation, I ended up purchasing the Plus membership along with Subscribr, which increased my expenses.
At the worst timing, the USD exchange rate had risen significantly hahaha....
Since that day, I have spent several days focused on planning my YouTube channel and am now preparing in earnest.
Honestly, I haven’t properly used Subscribr yet. But after testing it, I definitely felt it’s much smarter than me and creates content much better.
Rather than a review of Subscribr’s features, I’m truly grateful that it served as a trigger to get me moving.

PS. Today, I received an email saying Subscribr is coming back. Although I feel a bit regretful about having paid dearly for the Plus membership, I would’ve still just been thinking about it anyway because I’m lazy. Thank you.
