Credits are too expensive, and scripts produce repetitive content.
Like another reviewer pointed out, credits are costly. I agree that paying over $119 for 20 credits is ridiculous, especially since it equates to only 3 scripts, assuming an 8-minute script costs 6 credits. Anything longer requires even more credits. In comparison, MakerSuite offers 15 scripts for $59. While this tool provides more words in a script, the pricing doesn't make sense. If the owner uses over 5 AIs, why can’t we choose our own, like ChatGPT mini, which should cost less? Also why are they not considering open-source options like Deepseek or Grok, which allow unlimited scripts for free?
When it comes to creating a voice, I’ve encountered issues. It either takes forever to generate and doesn’t work, or for the channels, it creates a voice that only looks at the latest video or top-performing video, rather than analyzing the entire channel. From my testing I’ve noticed the same problem with competitor research; it tends to select the best-performing video by default for ideas, which is puzzling. Analyzing the whole channel would make much more sense.
Regarding the script output, the intros are very generic, and the AI often repeats phrases like "welcome to my channel" and "picture this." Additionally, once I’m in the script editing mode, there’s no option to add a custom prompt for a specific script. While I can change the voice, I can't give my own prompt instructions for the scripting phase, which is limiting.
Overall, the tool has an appealing look and feel, and the concept is good, but I find it very expensive. If it were cheaper and allowed users to choose their own AI from the tool’s list, we could pay fewer credits, or connect to free open-source AI options like Deepseek or Grok. This would make the tool more cost-effective and would likely satisfy customers. Furthermore, improvements in the script customization, voice creation, and competitor research would earn this product a 5-star rating from me. It's also disappointing to see that the tool hasn't been live for long, yet the pricing has already increased...

Regarding AI model selection, Subscribr uses specific models for specific purposes based on extensive prompt optimization. Each model is carefully selected for its particular strengths. While options like GPT4-mini might be cheaper, the quality difference is significant for scriptwriting, which directly impacts YouTube performance. As for DeepSeek and Grok, contrary to some perceptions, these aren't free for developers to implement, nor do they produce the best scriptwriting results in my testing.
I'm sorry to hear you experienced issues with the channel voice feature. I'd be happy to help troubleshoot this - please reach out via the chat bubble in the bottom left of the app. The tool does analyze top-performing videos by default, operating on the principle that these represent successful writing styles. However, you have full flexibility here - you can create custom channel voices using up to 5 writing samples from any source.
To eliminate phrases like "picture this," you can adjust settings in the Advanced Mode of the Channel Voice feature by removing mentions of "vivid descriptions" or "engaging" tone. For custom prompts during scriptwriting, the Draft step allows this functionality. Each section has a "Plan" tab where you can modify instructions before regenerating content with the "Generate Draft" button. I agree that adding a live rewrite tool in the Edit step would be valuable - this is on our development roadmap.
