Not going to lie, we had a bit of hiccups, but honestly this is amazing at this point of how well the subscriptions have been working.
Need to give brownie points to the customer support. I annoy them from time to time. Very impressed of how they fixed or tried to understand some of the challenges in beta. This is what appsumo is all about.
I purchased this in October of last year (2021) and it's been 6 months and the issues I have raised are still being worked on. Support is the same repeat of it's in the queue and will be fixed. But a simple issue such as a double line item on the invoice should be fixable soon. I wouldn't want my customers to get confused as to why they are being billed twice when that is not the case. In the site's web preview it doesn't show the line item twice but the total $ is missing! There is no consistency.
They raised so much funding that they should have enough engineers to roll out these simple fixes. I'm a developer, by no means an engineer but fixing an item from not being shown twice should be simple especially when the web preview version of it doesn't have that bug. And why is the preview different? It should be exactly what was sent out. This is concerning.
I understand there are more major issues/bugs to be fixed, but they should also prioritize the simple fixes that could potentially take a small amount of time instead of having a backlog grow over time. I'm sure I'm not the only one.
Very frustrated that I cannot switch to Swell given these and other minor bugs.
The platform is still in its early stages and if you plan on going live on it please do take the time to extensively test it.
Custom SMTP for such a well funded company should also be possible but they don't have plans for that. Almost every other product on AppSumo has this. Invoiless, Invoice Crowd, Fiskl, most of which I have purchased but cannot migrate to Swell.
Buyer beware. Especially if you are going to pay them recurrently, thank God I only had to pay once. For something that I can't even use. Maybe in a year they will have fixed these issues. I will follow up with them each month until it's done.
The Best Ecommerce Tool For Small and Medium Businesses
Swell offers a wide variety of features and is compatible with most commonly used apps. It has a convenient user interface and is very easy to use. Highly recommended!
Great potential -- extremely frustrating waste of time for digital products currently
I was a huge swell fan. I promoted them to everybody I talked with. I was stoked about the potential. I spent an enormous amount of time trying to optimize my store setup. Then, I went to test the flow start to finish and, though I should have seen this earlier, was extremely disappointed to find that Swell currently forces the buyer to enter shipping info -- yes, even if they are only buying a digital product. I reported it. They said it was a bug and they'd fix it. After 6+ months of waiting, I gave up.
First they said that it was odd that shipping info was being forced and I was the first to report the bug. Then they said they'd fix it -- thanks for reporting. Days, weeks, months. Then it became, "We'll fix it when we re-launch our shopping cart experience in Q2 of 2022."
Massive time suck and wasted effort for me. I will update this review if they decide to do something about it.
Writing this review after having Swell for a few months and *trying* to use it for an online store project with a client of ours. To give some background, I run an agency where we've been doing website design/dev (mostly JAMstack) and Shopify sites for about 5-6 years now. Oh boy, is it plagued with bugs. I do think it has great potential down the line but right now it's so buggy that it's just a pain to work with. Their documentation is seriously lacking (for example, they have a Yotpo integration but no documentation for it). Their API is also extremely buggy and anytime you reach out to support they never have an answer. The standard response you receive is that they'll forward it to their engineering team and you'll never get an update. Their content model editor has also not been working for a while now with no resolution. They also use their own CDN for images with no documentation on it so we're limited to the customizations we can make. We actually started an e-comm project with Swell and it's gotten to the point where I wish we would have used Shopify instead as it would have been exponentially more reliable in performance and functionality.
I would really like to speak with some of the leadership team at Swell and see if we can get these issues fixed or at the VERY least some proper documentation for the platform.
