Honest Review of Teable.ai

I rarely leave reviews, but I felt compelled to share my experience with Teable.ai after using it extensively.

To start with the positives: Teable is genuinely a powerful platform. At its core, it functions as a robust database system that allows you to organize and structure data effectively. The AI component is also quite capable when it comes to building and organizing applications. With enough time and experimentation, I was able to build a simple system within the platform, which speaks somewhat to its potential.

However, the credit system severely undermines the user experience.

I purchased the Tier 4 plan and received 18,000 credits, yet they were consumed far faster than expected. While the AI can build applications, the number of errors encountered during development was frustrating. There were times when the AI simply stalled or did nothing, and other times when requesting a small fix resulted in the AI unnecessarily rebuilding large parts of the application.

One example: I attempted to fix a simple issue with a select column that wouldn’t allow editing. Instead of applying a straightforward correction, the AI went through a long chain of actions and consumed nearly 1,500 credits for that single adjustment. That’s an enormous amount for something that should have been trivial.

I even purchased additional credits, which unfortunately turned out to be one of the worst purchases I’ve made on AppSumo. The credits were quickly consumed without resolving the issues I was facing. Now I’m left with an application I spent days building that is currently unusable.

Another major limitation is the lack of native reporting tools. Users should be able to create their own dashboards, charts, pivot tables, and analytics directly from the data already stored in the database. These are basic data-platform features and should not require AI credits to generate. Being forced to spend credits simply to analyze your own data feels unnecessary and inefficient.

I believe the platform would improve significantly if users could:

Build manual dashboards and charts (pie charts, bar charts, etc.)

Create pivot tables and reports without AI

Use AI only for complex tasks or automation, not basic analysis

The founders have mentioned that they are working on reducing credit consumption, which is good, but it does not help users who have already burned through thousands of credits trying to build functional systems.

To be clear: Teable has real potential. The database structure is solid and the concept is excellent. But the current credit model makes it difficult to build and maintain applications without constantly worrying about running out.

If the platform allowed users more manual control over dashboards, reporting, and analytics, while reserving credits for advanced AI tasks, it could become an exceptional product.

For now, I remain both impressed by the idea and disappointed by the execution.

Hi Frozen_Chicken, thank you for the detailed and honest review — it means a lot, especially the nuance you brought to it.

On credit consumption:
We hear you, and we apologize for the experience. Teable takes a different approach from platforms that offer fixed drag-and-drop widgets — we let AI handle dashboards, charts, custom logic, and more, because we believe the customization this unlocks is genuinely worth it. Things that would normally require a developer can happen in a conversation. But that power has to come at a reasonable cost, and right now it doesn't always — we own that.

Here's what we've already done:
1. Added 2 months of upfront credits for all AppSumo users
2. Automations no longer consume credits, ensuring your workflows run stably without interruption

And what's coming in the next few weeks, as we've promised our community: the AI is getting much more efficient, and credit consumption will drop meaningfully. Our goal is straightforward — every credit you spend should multiply your productivity, not drain your budget.
Once our optimized version is live, we will review and compensate users for unreasonable credit consumption from the current version.

On dashboards and reporting:
We understand the desire for zero-cost data visualization. Our honest take is that AI-built dashboards give you far more flexibility than static templates — you describe what you want, iterate freely, and get exactly the layout you need. As we bring credit costs down over the coming weeks, we believe this approach will reach a sweet spot where the value clearly outweighs the cost. That's the balance we're working toward.

Thanks again for the constructive review.
