Minor UI Confusion, Great Product
Bad news first (and there isn't much): The UI leaves a little to be desired.
Overall, it's actually sleek, modern and works great - but minor defects or confusing elements detract from it.
For example, on first pass, "BYOK" shows as "You must upgrade"
However, once we contacted support, we found out that, "That's not true, just go to settings and ignore the BYOK pay wall." Similarly, we had issues with the AI agent not working once logged in & we couldn't get a "forgot password" email initially. Minor stuff, but it can feel a little tedious.
--------
On the good side - the product is great. It generates super usable topic maps, the keyword volume/data feels highly viable and there are more features than we expected -- for example, "Google Quick Answers" suggestions, "E-E-A-T" components for content overviews and detailed enough article/keyword tables that you can easily build a content campaign using the data from any given map.
Additionally, support is next level. Twice now, we reached out and got a human response within minutes -- where a resolution might have taken ~24 hours, we were all still VERY impressed. Some AppSumo vendors have ghosted us completely, for months or forever.
---------
On the feature request side -- I would love to see Sitemaps pull in existing pages + keyword rankings & stack them against topic maps or campaigns.
Eg. "This page ranks for the keyword: fire hydrant, which is a poor fit for your overall keyword focus of `AI Agents`, consider revising or removing."
In that way it could also dynamically adjust topical maps, such as:
"Oh suggested keyword 1 was already found on /page-keyword-1, so I'll mark that done and suggest sub-topics/pages only"
These aren't deal breakers but it would really round out the platform in a super high-end way.
All in all, though, we're impressed!

Jul 8, 2026Thanks so much for this, and for taking the time to be specific. This is exactly the kind of feedback that's useful.
That "BYOK / you must upgrade" paywall was a display bug, not real, and it's since been fixed so it no longer shows for your tier. The AI assistant hiccup and the password reset issue have both been addressed too. You caught us on a rough edge and I'm glad support could unblock you...

Extremely Convoluted, Buggy and Misleading
UPDATE 1: I have no sent my 3rd mail to Megan for support as well as tried contacting her on LinkedIn. Crickets. Dropping the tacos from 2 to 1 until something happens.
I didn't want to leave a review if I'm honest, but the fact that there are just too many things that either aren't working, are extremely convoluted or just straight misleading kinda forced my hand to do so.
Oh and the lack of support as well. This may "light a fire up their you know what" I'm sure.
So I'll keep this short.
Credits
Credits are WAY confusing. Like. WAY. Anyone out there, do yourselves a favour and go to /accounts/credits. It's like trying to understand a different language.
Here's an example:
01/06/2026, 02:00:17 appsumo monthly_refresh +50.00 0.00 0.00 Monthly AppSumo credit refresh
Here's another:
31/05/2026, 21:13:32 deduction -0.25 46.75 47.00 ?
Yeah, I know right?!?!
I'm being deducted -0.25 credits for "?". But that's just the start.
I have created a total of 3 maps. So now I want to go check out my map. I click on the map and BOOM, 4 MASSIVE banners at the top one of which says "0 credits remaining. Upgrade to keep building maps."
So I'm like, "What is going on?". I click back out of this billboard of a page and low and behold, bottom left, it shows I have 50 credits.
So now what is it? 0 or 50?
This leads me on to the next bit that really got my knickers in a twist an that is...
Misleading Sales Pages
I bought the smallest plan, coz that's what you do when you buy new stuff. You test it out first. But I specifically checked and it, very clearly shows (and still does), BYOK. Which to the folk out there not knowing what that means, is "Bring Your Own Key".
So that means, I have my own AI key... and I'm bringing it to the party. So that's what I wanted to do.
But BAM... not today Topical Maps Ai says... oh no no no. You have to upgrade.
If you want to test me on this, go to /account and just under the "Affiliate Program", it says: "Bring Your Own API Key (BYOK) Use your own API keys to generate maps without using credits."
But instead of allowing me, it says "Upgrade To Unlock BYOK".
So again, what is it? Can I or Can't I? Because I bought this license based on what the sales page says and it says very clearly with a bright green CHECK that I can.
I mean there are a few other things that I don't even have the time or inclination to go into other than support that's basically non-existent as well.
So I'll leave this here for now. And see what will come of this.
Maybe they end up helping me. I do hope so.
So far though, it hasn't been great.
Just my two cents... the ball is now in your court Megan.

Jul 1, 2026Hi Ruoall thank you for this, and you were right on both counts.
The credit confusion and the BYOK block were two separate, real bugs, both now fixed and live:
• The "0 credits vs 50": your credits were always intact, nothing was ever deducted or lost. The map-creation screen was briefly showing "0" before your account finished syncing in the browser. That's fixed - it now reads your true...

Early Testing...Has Bugs...
The tool is very confusing to use at first. But once you spend the time and actually figure it all out, it's pretty straight forward. The onboarding needs some work. But that's not my concern at all with this tool.
The issue I have is that it claims to give you 100's (up to 1200) keywords. I have tested with several sites that I manage thoroughly using different settings and keywords (niche to broad) in each respective niche and i keep getting a max of 20 keywords, even after setting everything to max. I have my site maps for each site added too. Has been pretty useless so far. I have had much better results but just using an LLM like ChatGPT. I'm still testing and trying to figure out if i'm going wrong somewhere, but I have followed the processes it has. I'm also struggling to see what the USP is here because as of now it's not providing much help to my SEO compared to what I've done with other tools and just using LLMs in general. I do like that it gives you various export options, which is why i'm giving it 2 tacos - it's the only thing i think is useful, but with basically no keywords being generated, even this is not that helpful to me right now.
If i find i've done something wrong and the tool actually provides a good number of keywords (as it claims), i'll update my rating.
Edit (6th June 26): increased my rating from 2 to 3 tacos on basis founder has accepted responsibility for the issues I'm facing (getting 20 results due to bug) and is actively working on a fix. Once it's fixed, I'll re-try and if it works, update my rating again accordingly.
It's refreshing to see such honesty and transparency from a founder like this so I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt that this will be resolved as I do appreciate bugs happen even if I am a little surprised this hasn't been brought up already within the q&a's & reviews.
Thank you for the honest and transparent reply.and I look forward to the fix.

Edited Jun 5, 2026Hey, thank you for the detailed, fair write-up. You're right, and the keyword count is on us, not your settings.
Here's what's happening: the 800–1,200 keywords get added in a second enrichment pass that runs in the background after your initial map appears. On some maps that pass is stalling, which leaves you stuck at the 20 starter keywords and separately, it isn't expanding things the way it...

Quick KW Research and Planning
If you are looking for a quick way to do KW research and plan your content for many months, this is a good tool to consider:
🟢 Sumolings love BYOK, and TMAI has this for all tiers which is super!
🟢 Pulls from DataforSEO, plus option to connect your AHREFS and SRMrush.
🟢 Lots of keyword suggestions with organization and scoring.
🟢 Aside from SEO map, you also get Social map, Product map, News map, etc.
🟢 Option for content creation stright from your KW research.
🟢 Export options: Export to AI, Calendar planning, spreadsheet, etc.
However, I also encountered important issues that are worth noting...
🔴 Failed generations are still deducting credits.
🔴 Credits are still being deducted despite BYOK connection.
🔴 Sometime, I can't find what I generated. Effort is needed to find it from the dashboard.
🔴 Other minor UI/UX issues.
It's a good thing that Megan, the founder, is responsive and listens to feedback. That's why I'm keeping TMAI, because I'm sure the issues will be resolved within the 60-day refund window.
Good luck and hoping to add the extra taco soon!
Update: I added the 5th taco because all the above issues have been resolved. I'm happy to say that TMAI is indeed a keeper! Thanks, Megan!

Jun 3, 2026Thanks so much for the review, and for the shot at that extra taco.
On the credits getting deducted even with BYOK quick thing that should help right away. the credit waiver kicks in when you connect an LLM key (OpenAI or Anthropic), since that's the part actually doing the generating. A data-only key like Ahrefs or SEMrush gets you their keyword data, but the AI work still runs on our side, so...
