Great Folks, Exciting Platform! A few flaws
First of all, the folks behind Uuki are FREAKING AMAZING!!! I've brought more than my share of AS products over the years and I've yet to come across a more dedicated and responsive team. I have no doubt that Uuki and it's customers will be handled with the utmost respect and care. For that alone, it gets 5 tacos.
Pros:
- Great alternative to FB
- Support is the best I've ever seen. Anil and Ankur are SUPER fast when glitches and suggestions are reported.
- Gamification is implemented and you can now change the "names" of the different tiers.
- Webhooks are available!
- SUPER easy to learn and navigate (my members complaint with Mighty Networks was the learning curve...none o' that with Uuki)
- Able to add titles, upload images, videos, cover photos, and format text in the posts.
Cons:
- It's current structure prioritizes public groups. If you want a public group, you get unlimited "spaces" (think subfolders or topic areas) where you can host alternate conversations within your group. These are SUPER helpful if you want to have separate areas like "Get Started" and "Introduce Yourself" and " FAQ's". Private groups are capped at 20 of these (at their highest tier), which you could go through in no time. This is not good if you have a community that entirely needs to be private or behind a paywall (e.g. course community, mastermind, membership etc etc.), because you'll be limited. The great folks at Vadoo are saying that they're collecting feedback and will consider a structure shift. I'm hopeful this will occur or I will likely max my limits and need to move to another platform. Uuki advertises as a hybrid platform for public *and* private, but as it stands, it's mostly geared towards public due to the private limits.
- The UI of Uuki is not up to par with Circle.so or Mighty Networks YET. I'm confident they'll get there, as they seem to be prioritizing feature updates first.
- There is no app, but they are saying that a PWA should be released this month (so folks can add an app icon to their screen to access the platform, but nothing will be in the official app stores). I'm fine with this personally, but some may not be.
- Notification system is almost nonexistent. As a community admin, I'm not getting notifications when my students post (and neither are other students). Also, students cannot choose (yet) when they would like to be notified (i.e. every post, posts that they're mentioned within; posts within a specific space, digest version of posts). Uuki says they're doing an overhaul of the notification system and adding push notifications.
- Branding ability is not there yet. When you invite a new member, they get an email with Uuki branding. Also they get follow-up emails inviting them to create their own community. I want to be able to customize what the invitation emails say (as I can in Mighty Networks) and they shouldn't receive Uuki sales emails. I can't add my colors to the Space headings or the log-in screen.
