Still confused

I’m still on the fence. Videolinq presents itself as a combination of Restream and OneStream. Though that isn’t really true, that is: this Appsumo deal isn’t on par with OneStream as there are extra costs involved with Videolinq. Comparing with ReStream isn’t comparing apples with oranges, but comparing apples with apple blossom: Chat is not ready, LinkedIn Live is not ready, Studio not ready... When asked when, the answer is 2021.

And when asked about features after 2021, the answers are vague. I still don’t know if Appsumo deals will receive updates. Some of the questions here are answered that 3 Appsumo codes will receive updates, some hint about only 2021, but most remain unanswered.

A lot of the confusion is caused by Videolinq self.

For example the “free” storage — on Oct 16th Fred wrote: “We are providing AppSumo customers with 5Gb of free storage”.

Yet they first suggested 10GB of free storage:
Eyal wrote on Oct 7th: “Not everyone has a streaming server to host MP4 files. To help we give customers a 10 GB storage bin where they can upload the file via FTP, point to it, and use it as a source for the live stream.”

Fred wrote on Oct 1st: “1. We provide 10Gb of storage if needed within our server (upon request). To activate the 10 GB storage you need to open an account and follow the instructions within our Client Portal.
2. If you are streaming to social media destination you won't have to pay extra fees. You will be not using our CDN at all in this case. You will only use our data transfer if you use our player.”

And after signing up the email confirmation reads: “The 5 GB storage bin is free of charge, but data pulled from this bin by the channel or a player has a cost associated with it. For example, pulling a 60 minute long 4 MBps video file with a channel will consume 1.5 GB of data per hour.”

So:
1) streaming to social media is NOT free of extra fees, unless it’s live.
2) The “free” storage is NOT 10GB but 5GB.
3) And it’s not really free as pulling from the storage always involves extra costs.
4) most of the ‘reasons why’ I purchased are still promises.

Not cool...

I haven’t been able to connect my webcam to Videolinq, so I’ll have to get back to you later about the technical and performance aspects.

For now I say: Sure, it’s a reasonable deal for just restreaming, but with a couple of caveats. Caveat Emptor!

Hi BogusBogey,

Thanks for your honest review. The deal doesn't mention storage anywhere, this is something we added on the fly for AppSumo users only. We don't offer this even to our regular customers.

The chat function will be released sooner than you think. We had setbacks in the past, that's why we are reluctant on stating any specific dates.

Regarding your camera issue, can you send us a support ticket with a screen capture to show us your channel with the source enabled? Thanks.
