Q: I read some of your answers on this thread.
According to what you say, I would like to confirm it, I can bring a live stream from Ecamm using custom RTMP and stream key into a channel using the player on the website or embedding it elsehwere. Moreover, I can use the m3u8 link that you provide to use on a third-party-player if I wish to. And, finally, according to your roadmap you will provide monetizing capabilities to this stream. Is this all right? The OTT component I don't get it since you do not seem to be offering it at all, hence, I am not sure why to compare with OTT platforms

May 15, 2024A: Hi cribeiro,
No, if you put the m3u8 link of a linear channel on Theoplayer and stream live from Ecamm. In Theoplayer only will be showed the linear signal of the channel (whitout the live stream). This is in our plans, it's hard to say an exact release date.
Best,
Joan

Hi cribeiro,
Yes, you can bring a live stream from Ecamm using custom RTMP and stream key into an embeded Viloud channel, here you can see how to do from Ecamm (section “Using a Stream Key”):

Yes, you can use the m3u8 link of a linear channel to use on a third-party player. Here please note that in the m3u8 currently is not sending the live stream. It is something that will be available in future releases. Here you can see more info about the M3U8 output feature: https://help.viloud.tv/article/33-how-to-get-the-m3u8-link-of-a-linear-channel
About the monetization, currently you can monetize through advertising. Pay-per-view and subscription is in our approved roadmap: https://trello.com/b/J3VaOdNK/
At the moment you will need to create the OTT Apps from your side using the M3U8 links provided. We are considering OTT Apps creation and distribtion for the future. Thank you for the update. I am not certain I comprehend this “ you can use the m3u8 link of a linear channel to use on a third-party player. Here please note that in the m3u8 currently is not sending the live stream.”. I don’t want to stream to YouTube. I want to use your m3u8 on a third party player theOplayer while I am streaming from ecamm. Can I do this? If not when?
Re Roku channels - presumably when building a Direct Publisher Channel, each viewer causes your system to stream data, thereby using our streaming minutes up (quickly!)? Roku don't take the one stream and re-stream it I presume?
If so, this is a case for using Vimeo Pro or similar as a CDN?

Hi johnr123,
Exactly, if you host the videos on Viloud and use the M3U8 links of linear channels to stream on Roku, in that case the P2P streaming has no effect by not using our player and more minutes will be spent.
Yes, you can use here Vimeo videos or similar as a CDN. Create a linear channel from these videos and use the M3U8 links generated by sending them to the Roku channel.
