Q: Subtitles Oversight
In 2024 your team vaguely mentioned working on adding subtitles on Viloud platform. The problem with your player is that it appears to purposely strip the subtitles of a video regardless where it is coming from. The only option left is to hardcode them into the video, which eliminates multi-language, and in many cases it is not a normal practice. IMHO, this is a massive oversight. Technically speaking, IT IS possible.
I am very curious as to why was this decision so distinctively ignored, and also if you can elaborate a bit on the reality of your roadmap and what other enhancements can be expected from the Viloud player? Ultimately, we provide an experience to our audience, so are you pursuing the enhancement of this viewer experience - cc being one of the main things viewers use globally)?
Thank you for the details and clarifications!

Mar 24, 2026A: Hi,
Thanks for the detailed comment.
You are right that subtitles/closed captions are an important part of the viewer experience, and technically yes, this is possible.
The short answer is that it has not been ignored on purpose, but it also has not been prioritized enough by us so far. Most of our focus has gone into channel creation, scheduling, playout, delivery, live streaming, and FAST-related features. That is the real reason.
That said, there is currently one way to support subtitles in Viloud: if you add HLS videos that already include subtitles using technologies such as WebVTT or TTML, the subtitle button will appear in the player when those videos are played. Here is one example:

About the roadmap, I prefer to be careful and honest. Improving the player and the viewer experience is part of where we want to keep moving, but I don’t want to promise subtitles or specific player enhancements until they are actually scheduled and in development.
Thanks again,
Joan
Thank you, that helps. It may be a great idea to update your how-to database to reflect the process for this because I could not find anything similar to what you just explained :) I'll contact your tech support to further this discussion for the proper steps. Thank you again.
