The Tool at a Glance
VoiceDash is an incredibly good tool, small but mighty. It does exactly what it promises. The speech recognition is state-of-the-art and responsively delivers what's technically possible right now. Unfortunately still without local flavor (e.g., Northern German), but that's not the team's fault. Setup on Windows is quick and self-explanatory. There are plenty of useful additional features.
Small caveat: The promo videos on AppSumo/YouTube are unfortunately extremely underwhelming. If a few people hadn't written reviews here, I would have ignored the tool. Those who aren't deterred will be positively surprised.

What I'd Wish For (Transparency & Power Users)
It would be nice to have more transparency about which models run in the background, also for privacy reasons. An accessible overview would be ideal. For power users, it would also be interesting to specify their own API or manually select an LLM model. A local STT model for private dictation would be nice too.

❌ What Bothers Me ❌
I. The VoiceBar – Good Idea, Poor Implementation
The VoiceBar as a visual indicator is conceptually great, but in its current form, it's completely useless to me. A permanently visible widget on the desktop that's in the way when not in use is a total no-go. Here are my minimum requirements:
A: It must be freely positionable.
B: Size must be scalable (or at least 2–3 presets), optional color customization would be a bonus.
C: Automatic hiding after X seconds (adjustable) of inactivity – mandatory.
Optional a systray icon that changes color (if technically possible).
The sound cue would also be cool if it could be individually customized.
--------------------------
II. Autostart – Please Be Quiet!
I want VoiceDash to auto-start with the system, but quietly and discreetly in the system tray, without a nag screen or forcing itself into the foreground. Unfortunately, that's not the case right now and is an absolute no-go.

Improvement Ideas & Feature Requests:
1. Link Snippets to Actions
The snippet function is a nice idea but still too limited. It would be interesting if snippets could be linked to actions, a few examples:
Snippet A: Send text via email or insert as draft into program XY.
Snippet B: Add text to the dictionary.
Snippet C: Automatically save text to a specific transcription folder.
2. Folders & Better Transcription Management
The "Transcriptions" tab lacks checkboxes for selecting and deleting individual or all entries – and the delete button belongs directly on the transcriptions page, not buried under "Settings."
Folders are especially missing. As an author, I often have lots of ideas on the go. Right now, I dictate via my smartwatch and have to painstakingly gather everything from the browser later. It would be dreamy to say a keyword and have the text land automatically in the right folder – whether for story ideas, shopping lists, or other notes. This feature is an absolute must, at least with the mobile version. Smartwatch integration would of course be the icing on the cake.
3. Small, Savable LLM Instructions
VoiceDash isn't an LLM – and that's good. But small, configurable formatting rules would be practical: for example, interpreting the word "period" as punctuation instead of a word, or having a specific snippet automatically format the text as a bullet list.
4. Automatically Pause Media During Dictation
"Mute Audio when Dictation" is a great feature. Even better would be an additional option that automatically presses the system-wide play/pause key when dictation starts – pausing running music, audiobooks, or YouTube videos instantly. Windows has a standardized media key for this.
5. Voice Control for Windows Commands
A bit of Star Trek feel would be nice: Simply tell the computer what to do. Commands like "Open email program," "Show desktop," "Open folder XY" – configured with freely customizable voice commands. This would turn VoiceDash from a dictation tool into a real voice assistant. (Home Automation? :-)
Conclusion
VoiceDash delivers what it promises at an excellent price-performance ratio. The minor UI flaws and some features that aren't fully thought out cost half a taco. I hope the developers polish the UI further and implement some of the suggested additional functions.
A small side note: The info that the mobile version isn't available yet and is still coming is somewhat hidden on the AppSumo page. It should be communicated more transparently.
