Q: Hi, Does WP-Reset also allow to take snapshot of WordPress as well before upgrading to latest versions.
I can see discussion on plugins and themes and my concern is more on WordPress core itself. Does WP-Reset allow to reset the core to last WordPress version, in case something doesn't work right after update?
Hi Kaushal đ
Yes, you can take a snapshot before upgrading WP core and then restore it later! But just to be 100% clear - that snapshot will not contain any core files. So, if you want to revert to the previous WP version you'll have to use our "Change WP Version" tool to change WP core files back to old ones and then restore the snapshot so you have everything 100% as it was before the update đ
But, a scenario where a user has made modification to WordPress Core files would be lost right as snapshot is not made of WordPress core files.
I don't see why anybody would modify core files but yes, it would be lost.
Hi, thanks for the responses. Just to clarify my related use case. I don't typically do backups before updates (I know, I know). With this plugin we could set it to automatically do "backups...snapshots" of the database in case an update breaks something. Then we could simply use this addon to fix the website by restoring a snapshot? Does that sound right? Basically can I use it as my Wordpress insurance policy if an update breaks stuff?
Hey Brian,
Yes, you said it right! :)
Whether it's an automatic snapshot triggered by the update or you create one manually, WP Reset 'snaps a shot' of the current state of your database. So if an update breaks something up after that, you just rollback, which means the database will be in the state before the update, like nothing ever happened :)
And since this is not a backup, not all files are rolled back, which means you can do everything within seconds! :)
