However Gumroad doesn't require you to connect stripe. They collect the payment on the sellers behalf, take their comission, then send the rest to the seller via Paypal. Is it the same way but without comission or does the seller have to connect stripe/paypal?

We're similar but not identical to Gumroad.
They're an MoR (mostly at least), we're not.
But we have more advanced cart features (e.g. one-click upsells, workflow automations, embeddable checkouts, etc.) that they don't.
So yes, you'll have to connect your own Stripe to your Zylvie account to collect payments.

Unfortunately, stripe isn't supported in some countries so all the added features wouldn't be utilized.
