When I write, I just write. I don’t think about all the professional things I should consider. Well… with this app, that is impossible because it thinks for you. It’s like it knows what your book needs to be seen as authoritative, a great read, and/or a best seller. . I usually just write and let someone edit it. The editing itself is worth any money you’ll pay. It does the line editing, sentence by sentence. You get to see what and why it edited it. Then you get to decide if you agree with the edit or not. I pay an editor lots for that. The down side is… the first book I’m writing with this app, is more of a simple book for my business. The app doesn’t want to keep it simple and it is blowing the book up much bigger and longer than I really want. You can say the app is very thorough. It’s not a bad thing. I think I should be able to set the number of words I’d like to limit the book to. It reviews your book, writes the back description and creates a good looking book cover. I was wondering if the number of credits were enough. The writing process and everything else is pretty cheap with its credit usage. I will definitely bring some of my other unfinished manuscripts to this app. Overall, the app is pretty amazing. I have other apps and this one is the best.

I never used AppSumo before, so I was naturally skeptical about buying a subscription for $100's. The provider, AIWriteBook, accepted the key, and in my user profile it shows the license as being via AppSumo. This was re-assuring, as it delineated the license from other types (pay as you go, ...).
Zero issues, and the creator has spent a lot of time with my simple issues, signalling that support was likely no different than any other licensing agreement.

note: Be assured that my 'incentive' was nowhere near what it would need to be for me to fabricate in this review. I waited a week or so before submitting this review, doing it primarily for people like me that hadn't used AppSumo before, to allay their skepticism.

I tried to generate a visual book with my own manuscript, but this wrapper only gives you a "What is your book about?" box. I pasted my manuscript (7,000 characters) into it because I like my writing better than the AI. It then completely rewrote my manuscript into generic AI rubbish with the prose of a robot. It cut out a few of my characters that were in the manuscript. It took it in an entirely different direction.

You can't even get a basic place on the website to sit down at an open editor and actually write, using AI as an assistant. It uses a heavily templated process, so you will lose any voice, style, or prose you think you have and replace it with its own.

This is simply a "let me wow you with a bunch of different writing niche wrappers put into the sidebar" approach while getting away with the bare minimum of features. Good luck getting features implemented that you want. Even seemingly straightforward requests get sent to a voting board, where they can sit buried beneath more popular ideas for months. You'd think the founder would emphasize implementing basic modern 2026 features.

I just can't trust this founder's judgment or ability to take this tool where it needs to go. People have been asking for an API and MCP for months, which is increasingly something I expect from AI software in 2026. There's obviously been a bunch of supporters wanting basic features, but the founder doesn't seem to want to embrace the future ahead of us. So I just don't know if I want to stay on a train that goes nowhere or backward.

I can see another motivated software engineer founder coming to AppSumo with a new writing tool that has MCP and blows this one out of the water with features. If you're already holding back simple modern features, then that's a good enough sign for me to jump off this train and wait for a better one.

In a few months, compared to what new, motivated founders will come out with, this tool could be like using a pager in the cell phone era. It's good for right now and seems high-tech, but in the next several months, I don't know that there will be much reason to have or use this tool.
