Q: Appsumo vs AlterHQ, sumo router vs Cloud models (AlterHQ).
Hi, the AppSumo version of Alter differs from the version available on the Alter website. How is it different? I read that there are 2000 remote tools. But what is this, and how does it differ from the AlterHQ version?
If, after the credits are depleted, I want to have a subscription from AlterHQ itself instead of a BYOK plan from Anthropic or buying more requests, is that possible? And what is the difference in usage when you compare BYOK Anthropic and the Alter models?
When I take an AlterHQ subscription for multimodal cloud AI per year, that is as much as a Claude subscription. What is the difference between them, and how can it be cheaper? And do I keep the Appsumo benefits on top of the AlterHQ subscription?

Jun 10, 2026A: Hi Nicolat,
The 2000+ tools are connectors to external services, think Gmail, Pipedrive, Google Sheets, etc... You have the same on Alterhq.com plans
If credits are depleted, you can upgrade to a subscription or buy more requests.
About Anthropic BYOK, you'll need to use the API through a proxy tool like Bifrost (https://github.com/maximhq/bifrost). You can't use your Anthropic plan directly as it's prohibited by their terms.
Regarding differences of usage between BYOK and Alter provided models, can you detail what you're looking for?
Alter is cheaper for 3 reasons:
1. We have routers optimizing usage based on your tasks and the built-in actions. For example the correct grammar action will use a model costing next to nothing. With Anthropic the smallest model is Haiku and it's not a cheap model nor is it the faster for that kind of tasks
2. We have a fair use budget to avoid abuse, when you deplete the budget, your queries are using smaller models (not the case for this AppSumo deal which is using a requests system). In the last 30 days, only 17 paid users depleted it.
3. Alter is not made for programming so our use cases are consuming less tokens and don't need the frontier models like Opus 4.8 or Fable 5
The subscription pro plan on our website has the same benefits than the AppSumo so you won't loose anything by upgrading at some point.

The difficulty is when to use which model, for what. Can you give a preference level for tasks? Like local models first, then cheaper models, etc? Because with the request-based system, 1 question is 1 request. BYOK is 1 model provider; Alter is multi-modal, so how does Alter determine which model is best for the task? Can i do simple programming with alter? maybe via email is better?

For local models, it depends on the models you can run and how fast you want your reply. For example, most local models could handle basic tasks like correcting grammar, summarizing or analyzing documents, Youtube transcripts or generate meetings report. But you need a context window bug enough.
