Q: Amical vs AI Dictation
How would you compare Amical vs AI Dictation, which is also on AppSumo?

May 25, 2026A: Hi! Will need to a side by side comparison but just based on AI Dictation app AppSumo page, few things that standout:
1. Amical has Mac, Windows, Android and iOS apps, while they supports only Mac and Android.
2. Both support cloud and local AI. edit: their founder below mentions they use Parakeet and we use Whisper model which is correct. Parakeet support is coming in Amical too soon. Amical via Whisper supports 100+ languages while Parakeet supports 25.
3. Amical desktop app is open source meaning you will always have access to the product no matter what happens to us :)
4. Amical includes unlimited words for local model usage in all tiers unlike AI Dictation.
Will checkout their product and compare head to head on the core dictation quality and speed. I encourage you to try both (AppSumo refunds to the rescue). and share feedback if you do :)
@Artem (AI Dictation app founder), please correct me if I got any of the facts/pricing parts wrong about your product, will edit my comment.
AI Dictation founder here. Amical is good competitor, I can only speak to my own product. The biggest differences are the native vs non native experience. Amical is built on top of Electron, it allwos them to ship to multiple platforms (support windows and mac at the same time) at the cost of resources. Electron is very resource hugry. If its not a big deal for you, definetly go with them.
If your computer resources matter to you our app will be better in terms of memory and cpu consumption.
Both ai dictation and amical are open source
Both have cloud and local support - i'd be interested to make a head to head comparison
UI - ai dictation has native UI, while Amical not - this is a matter of taste.
Offline mode we run parakeet while Amical runs whipser.
Parakeet is more reliable.
All good except we don't count local mode either. Good product guys, just a little different approach!
Ah the only one additional note, i just checked your android app and i didn't see local mode there which we support.
Very Helpful - thanks to you both.
