Q: How quick is it to set up
Hi guys, congrats on launching Directorist on AppSumo. I’m looking at this from a local outreach angle. I’m based in Tasmania, Australia, and was considering building a modern business directory for areas like Hobart, Launceston, Devonport and Burnie, as most existing local directories here seem outdated or tourism-focused.
For this kind of regional directory, what setup would you recommend: free listings first, paid/featured listings from day one, or a mix? Also, do you see people using Directorist successfully as a lead-generation/outreach asset, not just a public directory?

With the Setup Wizard and demo import, you can have a fully functional directory live in weeks and no technical skills needed.
On your monetization question: We'd recommend starting with free listings to build momentum quickly. Empty directories don't attract businesses, so volume first, revenue second. Once you have solid coverage across Hobart, Launceston, Devonport and Burnie, introduce paid featured listings and upgrades, businesses will pay for visibility once they can see the value.
On using it as a lead-gen/outreach asset: Directorist supports front-end submission, meaning businesses can come directly to your site and submit their own listings, no backend access needed. This turns your directory into a self-growing platform. Many users build directories not just as public platforms but as outreach tools, offering a free listing as the opener, and then upselling featured placements, lead packages, or even local advertising.
