Q: Realistic set up timeline
Second question if that’s okay: how long would you realistically expect a strong MVP regional directory to take to set up, including locations, categories, listings, claim forms, maps, SEO/schema, email notifications and basic monetisation?
Once live, how many hours per week do successful directory owners usually spend managing listings, claim requests, outreach, updates and maintenance?
Also, can listings be bulk imported, then businesses invited to claim or upgrade their listing later? If so, what data fields should we prepare before importing?
For SEO, do location/category pages like “Hobart electricians” or “Launceston plumbers” work well if set up properly? Are there any major limitations or mistakes to avoid before building at a state/regional level?

Jun 10, 2026A: Realistic MVP setup timeline:
For a solid regional directory with locations, categories, listings, claim forms, maps, SEO/schema, email notifications and basic monetisation expect 2-3 weeks for a focused solo effort. The core setup (plugin, pages, categories, maps) can be done in a day or two. The bulk of the time goes into populating listings, configuring monetisation, and fine-tuning SEO settings.
Weekly management time once live:
Most successful directory owners spend around 5-10 hours per week in the early growth phase mainly outreach, claim request handling, and content updates. Once the directory matures and front-end submissions pick up, it drops significantly as businesses self-manage their listings.
Bulk import + claim later:
You have multiple ways to populate your directory fast. You can bulk import via CSV, or use our Listing Importer extension which takes it a step further import listings directly from Google maps using Places API and you do not need to prepare any data, it will simply grab it from Google Maps. You can also import from RSS feeds like Craigslist.
The fields you'll need depend on your listing form configuration, common ones are business name, category, address, phone, email, website, description, and location.
