Q: How are OCR credits counted for PDFs, screenshots and re-indexing?

Hi Pavel,

you explained somewhere that one OCR credit covers one processed image and the allowance renews monthly. Could you clarify with examples?

1. A scanned PDF with 20 pages, each containing one full-page scan: does it use 1, 20 or another number of credits?
2. A PDF with selectable text plus embedded images: what consumes OCR credits?
3. A guide with 10 processed screenshots uses 10 credits. If I reuse those same screenshots on another page, are another 10 credits charged?
4. If I replace a screenshot, edit its surrounding text, re-upload a PDF or trigger re-indexing, which actions charge again?
5. After the allowance resets, do existing indexed files remain searchable without consuming new OCR credits? What happens at the limit, and can we buy more?

Thanks!

A: Hi

1) There is currently no such limit.

2) Yes, images in PDFs are also recognized and count toward the limit.

3) Yes, because the images will be uploaded again and counted as new images.

4) Yes, because it will be counted as a new image.

5) Search will continue to work for files that have already been indexed, even after you reach the limit. Once the limit is reached, new files won’t be indexed. It’s not currently possible to increase the OCR limit separately, but we plan to add this option.
