A: Hi there, thanks for reaching out. We havent yet officially launched Freemium support (it's currently in beta). We haven't yet finalized exactly which plan it will be pegged to. As soon as we have made a decision we'll let everyone know.

Q: We are looking for a solution like this but our use case is a bit different.

Users provide their email and get set up with a demo that they can play around with and add their Google Analytics to. The demo doesn't have an end date and doesn't require a payment to use.

A use can pay to upgrade from the demo platform to a fully featured version and we would like to monitor and track the people that signed up for the demo vs. the people that convert to a paying customer.

Can this be done with your platform?

Q: Hi Ben, I'm interested in Onboardflow, but like many others in the comments we have a freemium model so ...

would be great if you could let us know if this feature is ready and if it will be included in the appsumo plans.

Because of the different dynamics of freemium vs trials, this will likely require higher limits or a different mechanic to clean the leads from the CRM. In the spirit of 80/20 thinking, what do you think about having an option to track freemium subscribers like trials, so that they stay hot for 30 days (or 60 days) and then are automatically removed from the CRM (like as if it was a free trial). This I think would solve the issue of limits & tracking large amounts of users. But would be very valuable as if prospects are not closed within 30-60 days chances are they won't close.

In terms of users going over the limits, you could simply implement a mechanism where no new leads are added until there is space left for new leads to be added to the hot list, at which point they would be added in order of recency (last one in, first one out).

I think having this would be a win win for all, opening up Onboardflow to many more saas companies and helping more saas companies integratate onboardflow.

Another question, how are emails handled? Can we specify our own sender (like sendgrid etc)?

Lastly is there a way to enrich lead data in the CRM using clearbit so we can get a better idea of who the prospect is? Or to add custom fields if we do the enrichment ourselves?

Thanks
Chris

A: Hi Chris,

Thanks for reaching out. We released Freemium support (in beta) a number of months ago and are currently working with our beta tests to iron out bugs and refine the functionality. At this stage, we havent yet made any decisions regarding which plan it will be pegged to (and by extension - whether it will be included for all AppSumo users by default). I think there's a strong chance that we will include it, but we just need to look more closely at the numbers and impact on the underlying system as Freemium is a somewhat different beast compared to tracking standard trials. Sorry that's not a super clear answer - we'll certainly share more info when we have it.

In terms of enriching trials with data from services like Clearbit - this isnt something we currently do but it's something we love the idea of and therefore, something we're considering.

Thanks and i'm here if there are any further questions.

A: Hi there, thanks for reaching out.

I'm afraid not. OnboardFlow is specifically focused on trial users - to the extent that once they have converted they effectively disappear from the CRM and reports. We may expand in the future so that we also track converted users, but for now we're razor focused on the trial period of a users journey.

Q: Hello Ben, Using your previous product Missinglettr.

I'm curious about onboardflow.
After reading some previous questions and reviews I understood the scope of product.

We have Freemium kind of implementation for user services. But this deal is about trials. It came to my knowledge that your Freemium version of product is out in Beta. I wanted to know if I need to Buy this deal to try your Freemium version of product? OR I can continue with just signing up for onboardflow?

A: Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out.

Yep so our Freemium add-on is in Beta at the moment and is free for all users whilst it is in beta. We will need to manually activate it on your account though, so whether you purchase through AppSumo or directly on our site, pop us a note once done and we can update your account to include the Freemium Beta.

Q: Hey there, you mentioned last time that you are going to release a seperate product for Businesses running a Freemium-Model.

Any news here or an ETA?

The product looks awesome but we are on the Freemium-Model so the actual version would not work for us.

Thanks!

Q: Hey there!

Love the idea, but have a few questions to see if it is a fit for my SaaS business. (sorry for the repeat questions)

1. I see you have different plans on your site, is this deal the "Expansion Plan"?
2. I have clients in different countries and use different currencies with Stripe, is that possible with your tool? To charge in a different country based on location?
3. We give users the option of paying monthly or annually. Is this supported?
4. Once a user has an account that is charged monthly, and they want to upgrade to an annual plan does this go through your tool or do we need to also have another Stripe integration?
5. Our signup flow is as follows: User signs up for free (no credit card) and starts a 7-day trial in our sanbox. To push their creation live, they need to upgrade. Would this flow work/be supported?
6. On our site users can have multiple plans, that are each billed on a SaaS model. I'd imagine this wouldn't be an issue with your tool?

Sorry for the questions, but depending on the answers I might be buying 10 codes!

A: Hey Kasey,

Thanks for reaching out - some great questions there. Please find my answers below:

1) The plan you get with this offer is our middle tier plan (the Growth plan). If you stack additional codes you get access to pretty much all of the features of the Expansion plan but you're still technically on theh Growth plan (albeit a super-powered one)

2) Ah good question. We dont yet support multiple currencies but we plan to. Pop us a message via support if you sign up and we'll make sure to speed the development up to support it for you.

3) Yes absolutely. Weekly, Monthly, and Annual are supported.

4) Essentially OnboardFlow focuses on the trial stage of the journey. This means that once a trial has either converted or expired, we no longer track them. We may expand in the future to helping our customers monitor their paying customers, but for now, it's only for trials.

5) If you want to use our Stripe integration, then you will need to make sure that your create a customer and trial subscription record in Stripe when a trial is created. It doesn't matter whether you are asking for their credit card or not. If you are only creating the Stripe record if they convert to a paying customer, then you would need to send the data into us either via the JS Tracker or the API - both of which are more technical but completely possible.

6) At the moment we don't support multiple plans but as with the multi-currency, this is something we plan to offer so i'd be happy to speed the development up for this if you join us.

Thanks and hope the above helps answer your questions. I'm here if there are any further questions.

Q: Very interested.

If it’s tracking events for trial users, why can it not continue to track events for converted/paying users. Then it becomes a proactive customer success tool too. Eg salesmachine.io or Sherlock - providing visibility on customers who are in danger of churning.

In-app messaging and email? Define in-app messaging.

Possible?

A: Hi there. Thanks for reaching out.

Its quite likely that in the future we'll support paid (non trial) users. Right now though, we're razor focused on making sure we solve the pain points specific to SaaS trial users.

Re: in app prompts - these will be prompts to add your card, for example - so less of a messaging piece and more of a prompt to take a conversion action. Please note that in-app prompts are not live yet.

Q: Hi Ben, Is there a trial period limit for paid trials that are discounted for a period like the WSJ does and ...

then reverts to a higher price once the trial perod ends and actial conversion takes place? Thanks.

A: Hi there, thanks for reaching out. Essentially we don;t set a trial limit - thats something you would do when you send the trial data to us. I.e. you would specify when the trial ends. If that happens to be in 3 weeks or 3 months it doesnt really matter :)

Q: Hi Ben OnboardFlow looks awesome, congrats on another successful SaaS launch on AppSumo!

I have another SaaS where I'll be offering a free trial, but without collecting credit card information first, to reduce friction of sign-up - Stripe supports this option. Will I be able to use OnboardFlow to monitor all the necessary events throughout the user's trial?

Thanks

A: Hey Acciom. Thanks for reaching out and for the kind words.

Re: asking for CC up front or not... actually this doesnt matter at all. OnboardFlow works in both scenarios. The KEY requirement (if you want to use our Stripe integration) is to ensure that when your trials first sign-up, that you are creating a Customer AND Subscription record in Stripe (albeit on a trial basis). If you are only creating the Stripe Customer record after they convert at the end of the trial, then you wouldnt be able to use our Stripe integration and would therefore need to send the subscription date to us either via our API or JS tracker.

Happy to answer any other questions if you have any.

Cheers,

Ben

Q: Hi, I understand this product is geared towards SaaS companies that want to track conversions.

My question is - If I am a service-based business (dev shop) can I use this product to track how many leads have opted-in to receive my lead magnet (Step 1 of my funnel), and consequently track each of that leads' visits to my website (via a cookie?) and eventually see if they go through my funnel, like Step 2: Watch the VSL page; Step 3: Book an appointment with my sales rep, Step 4: Visit our proposal page and finally, Step 5: Made a purchase on Stripe?

A: Hi there. Thanks for reaching out. In theory yes this is possible, however because OnboardFlow expects the data to be based on a trial setup, you would need to make sure that you send custom trial data into OnboardFlow either via the JS Tracker or the API. Sending customer trial data is more technical though and will require a developer to make sure it is sent properly.

Q: Hi, will you consider including the 'Expansion' Plan with the 10th code?

If so I would be greatly interested in 10. I'd find that MUCH more enticing then choosing the $10 add-on upgrade (although thanks!).

A: Hi there. Thanks for reaching out. You can view the API Call limits at https://api-docs.onboardflow.com/#rate-limits

Essentially on the growth plan (which is what the AppSumo deal is pegged to) you can make 5,000 API calls/day. This limit does not increase with each code you purchase.

If there's anything else I can help with, just let me know.

features unless codes are stacked -- that's not the AppSumo way! Please reconsider this practice.

A: Hey Pip - totally get what you're saying, but please bear in mind that this deal is primarily for our middle-tier plan (the Growth one as seen here https://onboardflow.com/pricing).

The bonus when stacking is that you then get some of the features from the very top plan. Not sure whether that helps when thinking about how the deal is structured.

I'm here if there are any questions.

Q: I'm excited about this one, am interested in using it for freemium upgrade tracking which appears on the roadmap / inprogress.

For integrations, do you have any plans to integrate with wishlist member? Both your team and wishlist seem to prioritize integration options.

Thanks for bringing another great solution to the appsumo community.

A: Hey thanks for reaching out and for the kind words.

We are in the middle of working on an update to fully support freemium, based SaaS businesses. However, please note that when we release this update, it will unfortunately not be available by default to LTD purchasers and infact, it wont be available to any of our existing customers either. In essence, Freemium support will be released as a seperate add-on for everyone (AppSumo customer and our non AppSumo customers). The reason for this is that the nature of freemium is considerably different from free trials. A trial typically lasts for 14 to 30 days, whereas a freemium user could last indefinitely, so we're going to have to release this feature with a new pricing structure. Rest assured though, we will be coming up with a massive discount for AppSumo users.

Hope this helps at-least explain the context. Im here if there are any further questions.

Q: Can this work for WordPress multisites?

We are building our main website with trials and each trial is essentially creating a subdomain on our network. Our trials on our main website is connected to stripe without Woocommerce. Basically we have WordPress as a Service. Wonder if it would work and maybe how I might set this up. Thanks

A: Hi Robbie,

Yes in theory that should work. As long as you can include some JS code in your site and have a Stripe account to connect that should be all that is needed.

However, if you only create the customer record in Stripe once the trial has converted (and not when it is created at the beginning) then you will need to send trial data to us via the JS Tracker or API, which will require you to have access to the trial data of the logged in person (how you retrieve this data will depend on the platform and coding language you are using).

Q: Can we create customized metrics/targets to track users?

ie instead of just adding their card, maybe like adding 2 cards and spending more than $10 via cohorts (and track which events lead to spending $10?). Thanks

A: Hi there. Ah great question. So there are a few ways to achieve that. You might want to trigger some custom events, and possibly also log some custom properties against your trials (which can be done via the JS tracker). These events / properties could help you track how many cards they've added for example. You can then create custom cohorts based off these values - i.e. a cohort of customer that have added at-least two cards.

Hope this helps. I'm here if there are any further questions.
