1) No, you'll have to reach out to support to modify the tool directory's picture. However upon initial upload, you can choose the image you want to upload. I'd recommend not clicking save on a new tool until you've uploaded the appropriate tool image.

2) We have a free Puzzle community with a few hundreds users within it — it has training videos, recurring bi-weekly office hours, and places for you to ask questions to the entire user base. Additionally we have a YouTube channel to help out.
