Two things that I hope may added. Can you comment if this may be on the roadmap?
1. Ability to make image background transparent.
2. I see you have icons, but I can’t find any elements similar to what Canva provides (like shapes, fallouts, etc. I see you have icons which is very nice.
A: Ahhh yes, ok I understand what you mean! I'm afraid that's not available at the moment, but we're definitely looking into something like that for the future.
1) You can make a background transparent by clicking anywhere on the background and selecting "Make Background Transparent" as seen here: https://d.pr/i/tisv4L
2) We don't have any specific pre-made shapes, but if you do searches for those shapes (eg. square, triangle, blob, etc.) you can probably find some great options.
Thanks. I may have worded my question poorly (sorry about that). I meant to have the option that when placing a new image, that the image itself can have the background removed (separate from the canvas). It's a canva feature that's been mentioned before. I hope that helps clarify. I bring in separate assets all the time that don't have their own background knocked out yet.
Q: I bought Stencil a few years ago.
My shortest opinion and advice to those who hesitate: it's totally worth the money. Now the question: could you please say more about your future plans? Especially, do we get layers?
A: Great to hear you grabbed Stencil previously and have been enjoying it! Our roadmap isn't public at the moment, so I can't share anything specific with you I'm afraid. Layers are likely not in the cards for the near future. We've intentionally avoided layers to keep Stencil as approachable as possible. A ton of research has led us to learn that layers are the very thing that scares most people...
Hi Adam, Thank you for the reply, although it is a bit confusing. I mean, avoiding Photoshop - isn't because of the price rather? More importantly, a "hidden" roadmap does not seem to encourage people to buy your stuff, I am afraid. Best,
What we found was that people not only avoid Photoshop because of price (and lack of built-in assets that are inclusive to the price), but the main reason is that they are intimidated by the complexity of the tool. That's why we built Stencil, to create a simpler experience...much simpler. And as we continued to investigate this, the main thing people felt hesitation around was the concept of...
Even Paint has layers now, that sounds like a development cop-out NOT a customer usability issue...
It needs layers. At least an up/down arrow to move assets forward and backwards in the stack. If you don't want to call it layers, call it a stack. Move items from the top -> bottom of the stack, etc.. then no one would be scared of layers.
That along with a real copy/paste feature. I...

Fellow Sumo-lings, what kind of images have you been creating with Stencil? Anyone willing to share some of their awesome creations below?! 👇🏼
Q: Has there been any development of this since 2021?
Are we likely to get the ability to add team members?

Hey there! Thanks for the questions:
1) You can make a background transparent by clicking anywhere on the background and selecting "Make Background Transparent" as seen here: https://d.pr/i/tisv4L
2) We don't have any specific pre-made shapes, but if you do searches for those shapes (eg. square, triangle, blob, etc.) you can probably find some great options.
Hope that helps!
