Q: Using on iPhone
How does the app work on iPhone? Can I program my action button to simply press it and dictate text? Or do I have to go to the app and then dictate text there and it goes to my clipboard? I use my iPhone extensively so the method of how it’s utilized on iOS is most important to me. Also, how do I switch between languages? In other words, if I wanted to speak English and have the test written in Spanish how do I activate that? And then how do I change back to English? If you have a video demonstration that would be very helpful

Thank you for your questions!
1. How does VoiceDash work on iPhone?
VoiceDash on iPhone currently works through the iOS keyboard integration. Once enabled, you can use the VoiceDash keyboard inside almost any app where you can type (Messages, Notes, Mail, ChatGPT, browser fields, etc.).
First, please make sure Full Access is enabled for the VoiceDash keyboard:
• Go to Settings → General → Keyboard → Keyboards
• Add VoiceDash, then tap VoiceDash in the list and enable Full Access
• Open any app (Mail, WhatsApp, Messenger, etc.)
• Tap the 🌐 globe icon on your keyboard until the VoiceDash microphone bar appears on the keyboard
• Once the VoiceDash bar is visible, you can start dictation
2. Can I use the iPhone Action Button to start dictation?
At the moment, VoiceDash does not yet support direct Action Button integration for instant dictation launch. Currently, dictation is started through the VoiceDash keyboard on iOS.
3. Do I need to open the app every time?
No — after the initial setup, you typically do not need to open the main app each time. You can:
* tap into any text field
* switch to the VoiceDash keyboard using the globe icon on iPhone
* and start dictating directly there
The text is inserted directly into the active field rather than copied manually from a clipboard.
You may also notice an orange indicator at the top of your iPhone while VoiceDash is active in the background. This only means VoiceDash is available and running in the background — it does NOT mean the microphone is constantly recording.
The microphone only becomes active once you intentionally activate and use the VoiceDash keyboard.
If you are not comfortable leaving VoiceDash running in the background, you can also fully force-close the app after using it. Once closed, the orange indicator will disappear.
However, the next time you try using the VoiceDash keyboard without manually reopening the app first, iOS may redirect you briefly into the VoiceDash app and show a message like:
“All set — Please continue with the keyboard”
This is normal behavior on iOS because the system re-checks the required permissions whenever the app has been force-closed.
4. Does it paste from clipboard?
Normally it inserts directly into the active text field you’re typing in.
5. How do I switch between languages?
VoiceDash supports multiple languages on iOS. You can:
* either manually select your preferred output language from vocieDash Settings → Preferences → Language
* or enable Auto-Detect mode for multilingual dictation
6. Can I speak English and output Spanish text?
Yes — you can set the output language to Spanish while speaking English. VoiceDash will then generate the transcription/output in Spanish.
7. How do I switch back afterward?
You can change languages anytime from the language selector in VoiceDash.
8. Do you have a video demonstration?
At the moment, we do not yet have a dedicated iPhone demo video covering all workflows, but I’ll gladly share your feedback with the team since we agree this would be very helpful, especially for iOS onboarding and multilingual usage.
Just one thing to clarify - Whispr now makes you go to their app when moving from one app to another. According to them this is an Apple policy. Can you confirm that your product does not have the same limitation? In other words if I were to leave your app open in the background and dictate text using the keyboard method would I ever have to return to your App in between moving to another App?
As long as VoiceDash is still running in the background (orange mic indicator visible), you should generally be able to continue using the VoiceDash keyboard across apps without needing to reopen the main VoiceDash app each time.
However, if iOS stops/suspends the app in the background or the mic session ends, then iOS may redirect them back to the VoiceDash app again to re-check permissions/access before dictation can continue.
