Q: Endless AI dictation options - why is Amical different.
It seems every promo APPsumo runs offers another dictation tool. Why should I choose Amical?
Why is open source important? How does pooling work??

Edited May 18, 2026A: Hey! Fair question, my quick take:
(copying over parts from my reply to another question below)
The core difference is that Amical runs a real local AI model alongside cloud, and as you mentioned, we're open source. That gives you the following:
1. Every plan includes unlimited local transcription - tier word limits only apply to cloud. No other tool on AppSumo offers this as far as we know.
2. If you choose to use local AI models that Amical supports, your voice and dictations remains on your machine (doesn't go to cloud) and works entirely offline.
3. We can't really "go out of business" on you. Open source + local means you'll always have access to Amical, no matter what happens to us.
4. An active user and contributor community keeps adding support for new AI models as they come out - and we make it easy to access them right inside the app.
Pooling = your whole team draws from one shared bucket of words each month. So on Tier 3, you can invite up to 7 people, and they all share the same 1.2M words/month between them.
On the business side: we've been building this for almost a year, currently process 200M+ words/month and growing fast, and we're profitable with a large active user base.
On speed and accuracy - as a voice AI company, we run our own customised voice AI models on our own GPUs, purpose-built for dictation. We strive to deliver the fastest and most accurate transcription out there, and it keeps getting better every week, because we're not just shipping an app, we're shipping the models behind it too.
Feature checklists tend to converge over time; the structural stuff above is the part that's hard to replicate. If you get a chance to try Amical with our competitor apps, would love to hear your feedback :)

Thank you. For both the rapid response and great answers.
I note that iOS is private beta - like we all do, I live on my phone. IOS is essential - how does private beta work, and when will Amical be available in the APP store?
You're welcome :) The iOS app is still under review on the App Store - Apple's hard to predict, could be tomorrow or another week or two. In the meantime we have it in private beta program (where apple allows us to invite 100 users for testing while we wait for the review, this cap we've already hit).
If I am using a local model, is there still word limit ?
how does command mode work with a local model?
Has the highlight text and rewrite feature been rolled out ?

OK. TestFlight? I guess I would have to purchase and hope iOS is soon?
Hi @clarksofsilcotestore, replied to you above.
@Ivantudorbrewer, correct - I was talking about TestFlight. And yes, the iOS app is definitely coming, my wife is an Apple fangirl and she will kill me if we don't :)
