Berrycast agreed to let me keep my videos until April 1st as I had a significant amount of videos to download. Their bulk downloader did not work and so I had to go through each video one by one which was extremely time consuming and disruptive to my business. However, when I continued today to download my videos, I noticed that they deleted all my vidoes except for a few despite giving me until April 1st. This is hugely and negatively impacting my business. I had written them a few emails over the last couple of months and didn't hear back after they agreed to the April 1st deadline. I ask that they honour their agreement to me to keep my videos until April 1st to give me enough time to download everything. Please rectify the situation and honour your word. thanks!
Q: Hey when we purchased the Berrycast, it said unlimited storage.
but now, with Stacked Appsumo codes, the limit is reduced to 20 hours of recorded video, and we need to pay a monthly fee for unlimited storage. How is this fair? We were sold something, we supported the company with real dollars, and now the initial adopters are sidelined.
So you shouldn't have offered unlimited when you know you would have had issues. I think of WordPress plugins I've bought where they offered unlimited licenses and they actually honored it. So I'm supposed to go through your interface, and delete dozens of hours of video when you don't even have a time effective way to do this? Ridiculous . I can only imagine how it is to work at your company and how to treat your employees when you promise one thing and they do a rug pull. You need to eat the cost.
Q: I received this email today, it seems to be becoming frequent in products purchased here:
"Dear AppSumo ...
Family,
It is with a sense of responsibility and regrets that we share upcoming changes for AppSumo accounts on Berrycast.
When we set out on this journey, our aspirations for growth were high, anticipating that our recurring paying user base would surpass operational costs. Regrettably, despite our unwavering dedication and hard work over the last 3 years, we find ourselves falling short of these expectations.
We’re making some big changes behind the scenes, and unfortunately, that means we’ll need to introduce some new limitations. These adjustments are all about helping us through some operational challenges in the upcoming months, all while making sure you can still gain value and continue to use our tool.
Effective January 1st, 2024, the following limitations will be put in place for all AppSumo accounts (including invitees):
Limit on Storage: Each account will have a maximum of 20 hours of video recording storage. To create space for new recordings, users must delete or download older videos. Please complete this action (download and delete) before January 1st. After this date, any accounts with more than 20 hours of content will undergo automatic cleaning. Only the newest videos, up to 20 hours, will be retained, and all other videos will be deleted.
Limit on number of seats: Users with unlimited seats will now have a maximum limit of 100 seats. So, if a “5 codes” AppSumo user currently has 50 assigned seats, they can share an additional 50 seats, reaching the new maximum of 100 seats. Users exceeding the 100-seat limit will be held at their current count of shared seats. No one will lose their accounts, but in order to share new seats, you’ll need to delete any accounts exceeding this 100-seat limit.
Account Cleanup for Abusive Activity: We will be conducting a thorough review to identify and cancel accounts engaging in the resale of Berrycast seats for profit. It is a clear violation of our Terms of Use. This will result in the deletion of their account and all associated accounts (invitees).
Download Options for Users: As a reminder, you will have the ability to download all your existing videos before January 1st. This will allow you to retain copies of your content before removing them from your Berrycast accounts, creating space for new video storage. You’ll always have the ability to download videos to your computer to free up space for new ones.
I know that this must come as a disappointment to most of you and believe me, we feel it too. But please understand that these steps are essential to secure the viability of our product.
I appreciate your understanding and support as we navigate these changes together."
The question is, do you think I would buy your product, which was full of defects, if you told me that when it finally became useful it would have this limitation?
Yep! This is the part that really bothers me. This is one of the key features of the deal we purchased. If this kind of behavior can continue to be allowed on AppSumo, without retribution, then I fear AppSumo might end up like Kickstarter! Scam Scam Scam!
Purchasing on Appsumo is a big risk. Just like investing in the stock market. Companies go bankrupt, it's normal. 🤔 Therefore, sometimes it is good to consider whether it would be better to choose something known, but existing for several years, and pay a regular monthly subscription.
They didn't go bankrupt. They just decided that to survive, you will need to reduce the unlimited space to a maximum of 72GB per user and even that you need to delete your files in 20 days (browse a 3 year history) to choose what to delete, or they will choose for you.
I understand the need for readjustment, but the way they did it was very offensive.
We paid a premium for Unlimited seats. If BerryCast is allowed to change the Appsumo terms without refunding the extra premium we paid, what prevents other developers from doing the same thing when listing their products on Appsumo? They may initially offer a generous unlimited plan at a higher premium to attract attention and generate revenue, only to later modify the plan and impose a seat cap...
I agree. It shows that even when the appsumo deals states “all future updates to xyz plan” it does not count for much, because the berrycast website plans (even the starter plan) still state “unlimited videos” and “unlimited recordings” on their website.
So this “change” they have decided to do does not honor the deal that was presented on appsumo and buyers use in good faith to make a purchase...
Urgent Appeal for Reasonable Resolution to Berrycast Video Storage Changes
I am reaching out with a concern regarding the recent policy changes at Berrycast, specifically the new limitations on video storage for AppSumo account holders. While I understand the necessity for operational adjustments in business, these changes directly conflict with the original terms of our agreement, under which I...

Yes, I received it too, very disappointing, and they just gave 18 days to clean it up.
What is our answer? I bought unlimited video storage.
@Appsumo what are you doing?
By the way I really like Berrycast. Is Hippo similar?

Yeah I'm not sure they can legally do this, since the deal we paid for says "unlimited storage"...

You're right.
Many do this by not keeping their promises.
But you can't do anything about it. 👀

You're right, they should have given it a longer time.
Another thing is that it completely changes the rules for using the solution that someone could have implemented for it.
🤔
The second issue is to take care of your own local backup in the future.
There is no point in relying 100% on external companies.
