I purchased this product twice in error. The first time in July 2023. Then again in Sept 2023. I want to request a refund on the second purchase. Will there be a problem that will affect my July purchase?
I don't belive that it'll have any affect, but I'll reach out to the AppSumo team to confirm.
I'll get back to you as soon as I get input form them, but, in the meantime, you can also send us an email to support@collabwriting.com so we can have a more direct way of reaching out to you.

A: Awesome! I've just looked into them all and Activepieces for now looks very promising.
I've written them down on our "Zapier Integration" feature request: https://collabwriting.sleekplan.app/feedback/86219/
We'll look more into it. I assume that when we figure out everything around integrating with Zapier we'll be able to develop an alternative pretty fast 😄
What I like about Activepieces is that it's open source so it can be easily maintainable by us in the future. Thanks for sharing, and we'll keep you posted 😄
We currently do not have integrations with them, but Collabwriting is a cloud-based product, so all your data is always saved and backed up for you to use on any device 😄
Nevertheless we plan on integrating it with Zapier so then you'll be able to sync it with everything mentioned 😊
Q: Products can't get better and companies can't grow, unless the developers are open minded.
Since collabwriting is a research and knowledge management tool, if a collaborator want to share a critical piece of content that he got from some other source (may be he got it from a book or an offline journal, etc) why not allow him to share that? Instead of adding to comment, why not allow saving clip board content in the same way as you save highlighted excerpts? Since it is not a comment but a piece of content. This way we can share content not just from a webpage or pdf but also from other sources as well because you can't always expect all pieces of content from either a webpage or a pdf. If you have any valid reason for not allowing this, please enlighten us. Thanks.
Our idea is to build Collabwriting in a way to enable our users to highlight any kind of information they find and this includes Photos (Books, Journals, Printed Reports), Audio and Video as well.
When it comes to books we currently support imports from Kindle. And we have a plan in the next 6 months to start working on our mobile app that will enable users to collect physical snippets through camera as well 😄
When it comes to clipboard, again, great observation. We've actually already partially developed this feature, but not to bug you with technical details, we hit a wall with browser's permissions to read user's clipboard.
So we paused a little bit on it to rethink the UX. Our biggest UX obstacle is that we would like to have at least some kind of warranty that copied snippet is somehow tied to the source. Nevertheless we have some ideas and we're working on it 😊
We're still a small team, yet we manage to push new features every 2 weeks and we'll continue doing so until Collabwriting is the go-to tool for doing any kind of research 😄
Currently we support exports to PDF and Rich Text (Google Docs, Word, Notion etc.)
There's no option for exporting to CSV but we have a plan on expanding the export feature in a very near future. This is would be an awesome addition, and is not too complicated to develop 😄
Here's the feature request on our roadmap: https://collabwriting.sleekplan.app/feedback/104133
You can subscribe there and add additional comments if needed, and we'll put this into consideration and attach a due date very soon 😊
Q: Hi -whilst I really enjoy the pros of CW, I struggle with the UI.
Do you have plans to make this better? Maybe ask users what they would like to see chnaged/created.
For me, everytime I highlight a piece of text, it opens and I am not sure whether it is created or whether I have to press enter. When I visit my dashboard, I find that multiple copies have been created.
2) Would it be possible to bulk add articles to a cluster?
If you have any suggestions or would like to leave a comment on the ones already posted, we have an interactive roadmap you can check out here where you can contribute:
https://collabwriting.com/roadmap
To save a highlight without the extension opening you can use the Shift + Ctrl + Enter shortcut. A checkmark will appear in the top right corner when it's saved instead of the arrow that typically appears when the extension is closed.
If the highlight isn't saved it will appear in the extension with a yellow background, which is not the case once it's saved within your topic. If the highlight is yellow, you need to click enter to save it.
Tips like this one and others are available here and in other articles on our knowledge base 😄 https://help.collabwriting.com/en/articles/7118584-getting-started-with-collabwriting
Additionally, right now it's not possible to add topics in bulk to clusters.
Clusters are a relatively new feature and if you have a use case for bulk-adding of topics to clusters, we'd love to hear it 😊
Q: If I install the Chrome extension, it requires access to all websites.
Does this mean, that the extension is always accessing any information I have opened like intranet, online banking, etc. or is the extension only accessing highlighted information?
Can you please clarify which data is accessed and submitted to your servers? Compliance is an important factor to consider before making a purchase.
In short, collabwriting is only loaded when you intentionally open it, and data is saved only when you intentionally send it to collabwriting by creating highlights, topics, comments etc.
Security is very important to us as well, and I believe we differ a lot from the competition with this. Unlike most, we never load our app on any page unless you want us to. This makes collabwriting load a little bit slower because its' not pre-loaded, but it doesn't slower down every website you visit and I doesn't make room for security issues.
There are only 2 very short scripts loaded on every page and we intentionally made them human-readable and with comments explaining in details what's happening. So anyone can check them out: ➜ load.listener.js - Checks if collabwriting parameters are present in the URL and if yes opens collabwriting ➜ popup.js - Adds (CW) shortcut button on every page so you can easily load collabwriting when you want to. You can disable this popup in the Extension Settings.
Thanks again for the question, I tried to make it short, but if there are any other concerns please feel free to reach out 😄
Thank you, Ivan! Now I have a better understanding about what's happening under the hood.
Q: Hi
I have used Evernote in the past, and I am currently using Zoho Notebooks.
Both allow me to copy items on a webpage and they both allow me to put my own notes in by typing them or cutting and pasting notes it. I was hoping your product would have this functionality so I purchased it but I am not seeing it - am I missing it or is it on the roadmap?
No, unfortunately, we're not really going in that notetaking direction. Our direction is more toward building a research/knowledge management tool that you can take notes with while collecting insights rather than a full-blown note-taking app.
I'm sorry we weren't the right fit for you, but thank you for checking it out nonetheless 😊
Thanks for your quick response Sandra, to answer your question. I use notes also as a substitute for paper so I use notes for make sure I have a list of things I want to cover with a client or questions I want to ask. While most of my work could be handled with your app I do use it to replace paper which probably cannot be done in your app unless I am missing something.
Q: I installed the extension in the Arc browser, the side panel opens but when I select some text on a page, I ...
am not getting the little pop-up icon to save the text to a topic.
A: I'm so sorry I've totally misread this question, Sunday morning vibes.., here's second try 😅
If Quick Open button never shows (even when extension is not loaded). Please check if it's not disabled in the Extension Settings: https://help.collabwriting.com/en/articles/8141642-how-to-hide-the-quick-open-button
Otherwise, Collabwriting Pop-up icon only shows when extension is not loaded, it's there to help you quickly open extension and then save a snippet.
The quickest way to save a snippet is to: 1. Highlight a peace of text 2. Press an ↵ Enter
Unlike most other Chrome Extensions we only load Collabwriting in your browser when you intentionally want it opened. And there's only a few lines of code to show a Quick Open button for more straight-forward UX.
This is why Collabwriting does not slower down your browser by loading a few MBs of code on every page load like Evernote and similar products.
Thank you so much for reaching out, and if there's anything else we can help you with, you have any suggestions etc. Please feel free to reach out over our in-app Chat Support 🍀
Thanks for reaching out! We haven't tested with Arc before, it has a little bit different UX that most Chromium browsers so maybe it was a little bit confusing on how to get started.
Here's a short Loom video I've just created: https://www.loom.com/share/1ddd3f993d5e47038d2a9c8176f97494?sid=7ff7bd0b-2808-4862-855e-b2f027b8619b
If this doesn't work as expected than maybe there's a bug we are not familiar with, in that case please reach out to us over in-app chat support: https://app.collabwriting.com - pink button on the bottom right
So we can figure out what's happening and fix it as soon as possible 😄
It turns out that the issue was not with the Arc but another extension, and there's a workaround for it as well: https://collabwriting.sleekplan.app/feedback/97912
So the arc should work just fine 😄
Q: Hi.
I'm really interested in this tool, but I have a question.
How does Collaborating compare to Kurator (another AppSumo tool)?
The difference is that we're not a scraping or publishing tool, but a tool that helps you save what you find most important at the exact moment you find it and then collaborate with your team or collaborators around it.
With Collabwriting, you create highlights, leave notes, and add tags, that are then organized with topics and topic clusters. Both topics and clusters can be shared with other collaborators, with the option of setting different levels of permission (viewer, commenter, and editor).
There is no need to use an external web highlighter (all your links are private) and all the content you collect can be exported to Notion, Google Docs, or anywhere else you like to do your writing.
Another thing that I see as a difference is that you can use Collabwriting on PDFs too, both the ones you find online and the ones you upload.
We're working on new things all the time and you can check out our roadmap here to see what's soon to come: https://collabwriting.sleekplan.app/
If there's a key feature you're looking for, feel free to share and we'll see how it fits in with all that we have planned. 😊
And in the end, we have a 2-week free trial for the PRO version on our website, so you can check it out before you make your decision.
We are still figuring out everything around cost structure for Research Agents. That's why we are doing a soft launch and we'll be launching and testing it in the following weeks.
In the beginning they are going to be free, and then we'll see how we stand with costs and usage. Because AI features still have significant cost.
That being said, it's most likely that PRO users will have access to them free of additional charge but there is going to be a Job List, so X amount of Researchers work on their tasks one-by-one and when they finish push you an email informing you about it. So like your personal desk researchers, assign a task and forget about it 😄
Join our waitlist if you haven't already, and we'll keep you in the loop 😊
Feel free to add any more of your suggestions here or vote on some of the others already submitted. It really helps us prioritize what we'll be working on next. 😊
Q: Can it be changed to a second enter key operation when submitting comments?
In Japanese, the first enter key operation will send the comment in the middle of a sentence because the confirmation of a character involves a conversion.
We'll sure give our best to solve this as soon as possible.
Because none of us has any experience with Japanese language, It would mean a ton to us if you would reach out to us over Intercom (pink button on the bottom right) so we can confirm that everything works as expected when we publish the enhancement 🙏
I am looking forward to it. It seems that many services are responding to this language problem with a second enter key operation or a contrl (command) key + enter key.
Q: I tried uploading a PDF, then making some annotations and tried the sharing feature.
I set it to 'Anyone with the link' and it still asked to login when I tried to click on 'Locate". Clicking on the link "collabwriting.azureedge" gives me this error: "This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below." "The account being accessed does not support http." These are bugs, right?
Currently to leave comments users are required to login, but they can do it in a single click (Google, Microsoft, Github) 😄
There's a suggestion for adding anonymous collaborator as well, so you can upvote it and leave your comments here: https://collabwriting.sleekplan.app/feedback/87364
By the way, GDPR forbids tracking users without their knowledge, so if user would leave a comment anonymously, and then login, the comment wouldn't be attached to their account.
That's why our train of thought was in a direction of enabling users to view topics without logging in, but when they want to collaborate enabling them to do it as fast and as easy as possible 😄
Hi Ivan... There's an option when sharing a topic, "Anyone with the link can comment", but it doesn't work. While users can view the topic and snippets, commenting is not an available option. Is that going to be fixed?
That's strange, if they are logged in they should be able to comment.
Can you please reach out to us through support chat (pink bottom-right button) to investigate this further 🙏
Q: Sometimes I like to brainstorm in Bing Chat because it is free and fast and searches the internet with it's AI responses.
I installed the extension into Edge to use it with Bing Chat. I can open the extension window just fine on Bing, but not when I am using Bing Chat. Any restriction to using it with AI Chats?
We've planned on developing feature for adding ChatGPT responses as Snippets and it makes sense to add Bing Chat as well
I've just tested it on Bing and it does some mambo-jumbo stuff with blocking extensions when chat is opened. But as I can see it's still possible to overcome it.
I've just created a suggestion on our roadmap, and we'll sort this out as soon as possible 😄 https://collabwriting.sleekplan.app/feedback/90341
Thank you! I use AI Chat to brainstorm and start initial research all the time, so this will be super helpful!
Q: I have a document which I commented and my collaborator has read it.
Based on my comments, my collaborator then produced a new version. I read the new version, but it’s still not there. So, what should I do in order to add comments to the new version? Is there any way to add new version to the existing topic and comment on it? How would the version tracking work in this case??
I tried to upload word document. It didn’t work. I really hate to have to convert word into PDF then upload. This is an unnecessary step. The platform should have an auto PDF function upon uploading and documents.
Currently you and your Collaborators can collaborate over different PDFs (versions of documents) in the same Topic. Just open that pdf, than in the sidebar select the topic of your choosing.
The challenge you mentioned probably comes from that Collaborators currently can't upload PDFs by themselves. So this is additional unnecessary step for them to send it to you. I've just created feature request to add this functionality 😄 https://collabwriting.sleekplan.app/feedback/89151
I really love your suggestion to enable uploading other types of documents and converting them in PDF so the collaboration is possible over unchangeable documents. I've created this suggestion here: https://collabwriting.sleekplan.app/feedback/89153

We got the answer from AppSumo!
If you purchased 2 separate licenses (two Tier 1 licenses), there shouldn't be any problem with you refunding one of them.
If you purchased Tier 1 and then upgraded to Tier 2, then the refund would cause a downgrade.
Let us know if you have any issues around this and we'll do our best to get this sorted. 😄

That's a great idea! We'll definitely explore that 😄
Q: Hello, Do you have plan to provide "Citation generator" feature?
like in "weava" and "readermode io" apps.
Sandra_Collabwriting
May 15, 2024A: Hi!
It definitely makes sense as a future feature. I've just added it to our roadmap, and our team will figure out how to add it. 😄

Ivan_Collabwriting
May 14, 2024A: Hi there 👋
Thank you for your comment!

Clicking on the link "collabwriting.azureedge" gives me this error:
"This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below." "The account being accessed does not support http."
These are bugs, right?

May 15, 2024A: Hey there 👋
Yes, this is a bug.. Thank you so much for directing our attention to this!
I've just created a ticket you can subscribe to, and we'll fix this as soon as possible!

Hey there 👋
PDFs are now openable on public links and do not require login, so everything should work as expected.
There are some minor known issues but everything will be fixed in the next release 😄
Q: If my collaborator doesn’t have a Collabwriting account, can they still comment?
Or do they need to open a free account?
Ivan_Collabwriting
May 14, 2024A: Hi there 👋
Currently to leave comments users are required to login, but they can do it in a single click (Google, Microsoft, Github) 😄
There's a suggestion for adding anonymous collaborator as well, so you can upvote it and leave your comments here:
https://collabwriting.sleekplan.app/feedback/87364
By the way, GDPR forbids tracking users without their knowledge, so if user would leave a comment anonymously, and then login, the comment wouldn't be attached to their account.
That's why our train of thought was in a direction of enabling users to view topics without logging in, but when they want to collaborate enabling them to do it as fast and as easy as possible 😄

So if a user with a free account can comment on the topic I shared with them, but they can’t create topic. Is that correct? Please confirm.
Verified purchaser
They can create Topics in their own Workspace, but they can't create Topics in yours.
The collaboration is imagined to be around Topics, Owner creates them and assigns roles to Collaborators so they can collaborate around them 😄
Hi Ivan... There's an option when sharing a topic, "Anyone with the link can comment", but it doesn't work. While users can view the topic and snippets, commenting is not an available option. Is that going to be fixed?

Hey Berdley 👋
That's strange, if they are logged in they should be able to comment.
Can you please reach out to us through support chat (pink bottom-right button) to investigate this further 🙏
Q: Sometimes I like to brainstorm in Bing Chat because it is free and fast and searches the internet with it's AI responses.
I installed the extension into Edge to use it with Bing Chat. I can open the extension window just fine on Bing, but not when I am using Bing Chat. Any restriction to using it with AI Chats?
Ivan_Collabwriting
May 14, 2024A: Thanks for reaching out! 😄
We've planned on developing feature for adding ChatGPT responses as Snippets and it makes sense to add Bing Chat as well
I've just tested it on Bing and it does some mambo-jumbo stuff with blocking extensions when chat is opened. But as I can see it's still possible to overcome it.
I've just created a suggestion on our roadmap, and we'll sort this out as soon as possible 😄

Ivan_Collabwriting
May 15, 2024A: Hey Ida these are some awesome suggestions 😄
Currently you and your Collaborators can collaborate over different PDFs (versions of documents) in the same Topic. Just open that pdf, than in the sidebar select the topic of your choosing.
The challenge you mentioned probably comes from that Collaborators currently can't upload PDFs by themselves. So this is additional unnecessary step for them to send it to you. I've just created feature request to add this functionality 😄
https://collabwriting.sleekplan.app/feedback/89151
I really love your suggestion to enable uploading other types of documents and converting them in PDF so the collaboration is possible over unchangeable documents. I've created this suggestion here:
https://collabwriting.sleekplan.app/feedback/89153
Thanks for suggestions! 😄
