Q: Can you choose your audio output device? Unfortunately, no—and that is a dealbreaker.
The Issue:
Hedy strictly relies on whatever audio output is set as your system default. If you use a dedicated device for meetings (like a headset in Microsoft Teams or Zoom) while keeping your system audio on speaker, you are forced to manually change your entire operating system's default sound settings before every single call just so Hedy can capture the incoming audio.
Bottom Line:
Having to constantly adjust OS sound settings prior to every meeting breaks the workflow. Hedy urgently needs a dedicated audio output selector within its settings.

Edited Oct 2, 2026A: Hi Hugo,
You're right that Hedy captures your computer's audio from the system's default output, and there's no separate selector for it in Hedy. That's how most meeting note apps that capture audio directly work, since they listen to the device the system plays through.
If you're on Windows, there's a one-time setup that saves you from switching before every call. Set your headset as the default output device. Then open Settings > System > Sound > Volume mixer (on Windows 10: App volume and device preferences) and point the apps you want on your speakers, like music or your browser, at the speakers. Teams and Zoom then play through the headset, Hedy hears them, and everything else stays on the speakers without touching anything per meeting.
On a Mac, set your headset as the output before the call. Hedy will follow it.

Update: the next Windows update adds a switch for exactly this. In Settings > Meeting Settings, under the microphone picker, turn on "Use Windows default communication device". If Teams or Zoom plays through a headset that's set as your Windows default communication device, Hedy takes the call audio from there, and your speakers can stay the default output. On a Mac, the tip above still applies.
