Q: Character instructions limit

Purchased Plan 6 ($999) to resell AI agents to 100+ clients, but need clarity on the character instructions limit before purchasing.

Question: Is the 100,000 character limit expandable or is it a hard global cap?

My situation:
- 100+ clients, each needing 2,000-5,000 chars for knowledge base
- Total need: 200,000-500,000 chars
- 100,000 cap allows only ~1,000 per client

Specific questions:
1. Is this limit global or per sub-account?
2. Can additional capacity be purchased?
3. Any roadmap to increase it?
4. Is a custom/enterprise deal possible?

Best regards,

A: Hi Oliver, thanks for the kind words, and for doing the math before buying rather than after.

Good news: the math is based on a misunderstanding of how the limit works, and the real answer is much better than you are expecting.

The 100,000 character limit is not a global account cap. It applies per AI agent. Each of your clients gets their own sub-account, each sub-account carries its own independent 100,000 character allowance, and each sub-account can run as many agents as it needs, each with its own separate 100,000 characters. So with 100+ clients you are not splitting 100,000 between them. Tier 6 includes unlimited sub-accounts, so there is nothing to divide up.

The second thing worth knowing is that the character budget only covers the agent's instruction fields (persona, goal, company info and so on). Your clients' knowledge bases (products, pricing, FAQs, documents you import) live in a separate knowledge base that does not count against that budget at all, and it works by retrieval, so only the entries relevant to each conversation get pulled into a reply. That is where the bulk of client-specific content is meant to go, and it scales far past 100,000 characters. We have accounts running knowledge bases in the millions of characters.

On your 2,000 to 5,000 characters per client estimate: that sits comfortably inside a single agent's budget. In practice the agents that perform best land somewhere around 10,000 to 30,000 characters of instructions. The limits are set to be generous, not to be filled.

So, directly: 1) not global, it is per agent inside each sub-account, 2) there is no extra capacity to buy because you do not need it, 3) no increase is planned since this is not the constraint at your scale, and 4) no custom deal required, Tier 6 already covers what you described. You can also set the context tier per sub-account if you ever want to give specific clients a different allowance.
