Q: Hi, I was so close to purchasing.

I don't think stating the AppSumo deal as a 0 risk way of trying Soundpiece is fair. As much as that is seriously cool feature of AppSumo, it is down to your company to give people a way to try it without signing up (or otherwise state there is no way to try it).

What puts me off is that I don't think this approach will work for subscribers at all, and that will limit the lifespan of the app. It also suggests there is not enough confidence is showing the app as it is and letting it 'speak for itself'.

Have you ever looked into the ProductLed approach? I would strongly recommend it.

In the meantime, is there any chance you can provide a way to test the app that does not require purchase here (which I feel goes against the aim of the refund policy) and without giving credit card details?

Thanks

A: Hi Mike, thanks for the feedback. The reason for the approach is that there is a cost to us of creating songs. With the AppSumo deal users can test soundpiece for 2 months with a full money-back guarantee. I do hear your comments and will look into further ways to give users a chance to try soundpiece.

Q: I am interested in using Soundpiece as a replacement for AIVA when my subscription to that product expires.

I am subscribed to the Pro plan which means I own the copyright to the music I produce.

I know you have already answered a number of similar questions regarding the user license but perhaps that is because it is rather confusing.

I would like to publish the music I produce with Soundpiece via various streaming services such as Spotify. The license agreement says this is prohibited. However, you seem to have said that it is allowed if the licensee modifies the composition.

The bottom line is: I need clear guidance on what I need to do to any compositions produced in Soundpiece in order to publish them to streaming outlets without breaching the terms of use.

For example, if I were to use a music production app to create an original melody and mix it with the Soundpiece-generated composition, would this allow me legitimately to publish the end result to services such as Spotify?

Thank you in advance.

A: Hi Henley, thanks for the great question!

The simplest way to explain it is that as long as the new mixed song (using parts of what soundpiece generates and mixing it together with your own melody) sounds like a different / new song, then that will be fine to publish on Spotify.

The only limitation is if you don't make any changes to the original soundpiece generated song, then you can't claim full copyright on that.

If you, however, make changes or incorporate it into a larger song and the new song sounds different, then you will be fine to publish it.

We are working on new features to make the copyright easier to understand and manage in future.

Q: So I was following your Q&A and noticed a few prohibits.

If I am not mistaken I can not post any composed music pieces created to my monetized YouTube channel without?

Could you perhaps expand on that please?

A: Hi Kailon, thanks for your question.

You can use songs as part of videos in your monitized youtube channel. What is limited is that the copyright of the generated songs belong to soundpiece but you won't ever be required to pay royalties and can use the generated music royalty free. If you, however, change the generated songs or use it as part of your own original composition then you will own the copyright of the new song.
