Q: When will AppSumo start seriously protecting its customers from such scams?
Over the past few years, I purchased several "Lifetime" deals from AppSumo that suddenly shut down, not even after 2 years, and always a couple of months outside the "We Got Your Back" guarantee.
I know LTDs carry some degree of risk and are not always a guarantee of a good deal, but there seems to be a recurring (and increasing) pattern of software that takes advantage of AppSumo, then suddenly...
Now they make open source. I paid good money just give to now give it away for free, and they want me to host on my own server. They should have done that to begin with for POC. Then move to a paid version. Where is AppSumo on this? Because will now become the norm to avoid litigation.
I guess its better than totally ghosting away... that would have been a total loss. This has commercial license included, so maybe I will improve the product and host as SaaS. All Appsumo customers could get a deal... there is some hope I guess!
Rather than getting money back, I wish founder partners with someone to keep it running. I tried contacting Vikas on email and linkedin, but he wont respond - probably he is getting spammed too much. I wonder what Appsumo is doing about it.
Appsumo said: "Because this closure falls outside our We Got Your Back Guarantee window, Fable does not qualify for refunds or credits". Just by a few months, and Fable's team said: "Fable explored multiple options and customer segments over the years, but was unable to meet a sustainable product-market fit." , so they knew?!
@AppSumo This really is becoming just ridiculous the amount of poor companies/deals that fail so soon after the "got your back" "guarantee". I don't think many people who bought Fable, only to have it fold within 6 months, out of your guarantee window, feel that you have our back. I understand this can happen with early-stage software but the number in the last 18 months is very off-putting.

Those that bought on their last wave, check your purchase dates, you may be lucky.
