Q: Can I manage internal projects in SuiteDash?

I often plan events, which requires me to send contracts, manage contractors, and track tasks, but it's an internally managed project. Can SuiteDash operate like this, or is a "client" required to manage a project?

A: Hi jayrayisthename,

Yes, definitely. Internal projects work fine.

Right now a Project does expect a Client to be assigned, so the simple approach is to create one placeholder Contact for this purpose. Name it something like First Name "Internal" and Last Name "Project," then assign that Contact whenever you're building a Project that isn't tied to an actual customer. Takes thirty seconds once and you never think about it again.

Everything else you described works normally from there. Contracts through Documents with digital signing, contractors added as Staff and assigned to Tasks, and full Task tracking with dependencies, Kanban view, and Timers if you want to log hours against the work.

Worth knowing: we have work in process right now to analyze and modify the logic so that a Client selection isn't required at all. So the placeholder approach is a short-term step rather than something you'll be living with permanently.

Event planning is actually a great fit for the Projects Toolkit. Phases, Task Templates, and Project Generators mean you build your standard event workflow once and spin up a fully populated Project for each new event rather than rebuilding the checklist every time.

TIP: Make sure you understand what a "Based-On Date" is, because in event planning, this mechanism is incredibly useful. You can collect the date of the event in an early intake form or interest form, save that to a custom field, and then base all of your automations around that date, both before and after. You can build a complete timeline that is replicatable over and over and over again. The timeline of your automations is anchored around the "based on" date, which can be whatever date the event is, so your lead-up events and your follow-up events are anchored dynamically around the date of the event each time.
