Q: What Happens if You Sell The Software

I’ve noticed a concerning trend with some software purchased through AppSumo: a company grows, gets acquired, and the new owner no longer honors the Lifetime Deal. Small business owners who have invested thousands of dollars and countless hours building systems around the platform are then forced to pay a subscription or risk losing their data and starting over.

For those of us making SuiteDash a core part of our business infrastructure, what protections are in place for Lifetime Deal customers? If SuiteDash is ever sold, acquired, or changes ownership, are our lifetime licenses guaranteed to be honored? What safeguards protect our access and data? I’d appreciate a direct response, as this is important when deciding how heavily to invest to further in the platform long-term.

A: Hi lakyshascoupons,

Direct answer, since you asked for one.

Your concern is legitimate. It's happened to LTD holders across this marketplace and I'm not going to dismiss it.

Here's our situation. SuiteDash is bootstrapped. No VC, no board, no outside investors. That matters more than any promise I could make, because the pattern you described almost always starts the same way: a company takes investment, the investors need an exit, the exit happens, and the new owner has no relationship with the customers who came before them. We removed that mechanism entirely. There is no investor waiting to be paid out and no board pushing for a sale. We're also profitable and 100% debt-free, so there's no financial pressure making an acquisition the only reasonable move.

But let me answer the actual question you asked, which is what happens if there ever were an exchange of the company.

As the CEO and sole decision maker, I would insist that the agreement would clearly state in writing that every existing contract, agreement, and representation we have made to our customers would have to be honored - that would have to be part of any deal. That is not a negotiating position I would trade away for a better number. It's a matter of my own honor, and I could not personally allow a transaction to happen without those protections in it. People built their businesses on commitments I made. I am not capable of walking away from that and living with myself afterward.

Three practical points on top of that.

Your lifetime license is a contractual obligation of the company, not a favor. It travels with the entity. An acquirer takes on the obligations along with the assets.

Your data is exportable at any time. CRM Contacts, Companies, and Custom Field data all export to CSV, and your files are your files. You are not locked in, and that protection doesn't depend on trusting anyone's word.

Our track record is the real evidence. Every code we have ever sold, going back to our first campaign, still works today. Everything shipped since then has been included at no additional cost to lifetime holders. That's years of behavior rather than a paragraph of assurance.

Thanks,

Mike
